Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread

Dock is going to be available soon, rumoured to be about £25. Better than the £79 some people were quoting...

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread

Nice to know, but not a great review.

They say "though the lack of an HDMI port will limit the dock's media-output capabilities." but maybe that's because the N7 doesn't have a HDMI out?

"Lacks bells and whistles" - they use this twice, with no examples of what should be added. It's a good quality dock for crying out loud, at £25 quid. What do they want exactly?

Yeah i thought that aswell. Not having HDMI out is a downfall of the Nexus, not the dock.

I can't imagine when I would use HDMI out to be honest. To stream from tablet to TV? All my media goes on my home network first, and so is available through my PS3.

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread

I'm having an issue with the volume through headphones, anyone got a fix? It's fine when I'm in a café or something, but I can barely hear it on the train. The max volume does not seem very high at all, and the 'your ears will bleed' warning seems to come in very low. Maybe it's the earphones I'm using, but they're the Sony ones from my old Walkman, and they were plenty loud with that...

Update to 4.2.2 downloaded & installed today. Not noticed any changes yet, but it's nice not to have to wait for the manufacturer to pull their finger out and get the damn thing sent out...

Just keep turning it up past the warning. I have had issues with the built in speaker being quiet (as has everyone) but nothing with the HP socket.

do people bother with AV and firewall for these things? is it necessary?

also interested about AV. i was running adblock pro but found it was the problem for my internet freezing so now i have to root it to get the other ad blockers.

Does rooting make you more open to virus's?

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread

I was looking forward to that dock being released before I got my Nexus but now that I have it I find myself charging it so infrequently, and it charges so quickly, I doubt I'd need it.

As for AV I just leave mine as it is, although I don't really visit many dodgy sites and nothing from uTorrent seems to have done it any harm so far.

Mine takes an age to charge, usually around 18 hours from all but empty to full. I thought that was normal, but I guess it isn't?

It makes no difference what charger I use.

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread

Mine takes a good few hours, not as long as Burble mind. Bare in mind its not just the charger that makes a difference its the cable too. I found that HTC cables work as well as the asus ones however blackberry, nokia ones worked but if i was using the tablet at the same time, they wouldnt supply enough power and the battery still drained. Some cheapo ones i got from ebay took an absolute age to charge it.

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread

I'm mostly using the charger and cable that came with it when I'm at home but when I'm travelling I use a Blackberry charger and I find it takes an ice age with both of them. I don't tend to use the Nexus while it is charging.

Battery life seems OK, it's just the time it takes to charge that I'm not happy about. Not a big problem though really.

Have you updated to 4.2.2? Apparently that addresses some charging time issues. Mine seemed to be taking an age to charge last night, but I discovered I hadn't switched it on at the wall.

Have you guys got battery widget reborn installed? It gives you some really useful figures about how your battery is being used and plots usage onto a nice graph. I would recommend giving it a shot
