So who else has ordered one?
Which one did you order?
Any accessories caught your eye yet?
Thinking about rooting and romming?
I got the 16GB one and i have been looking at the Zagg Flex keyboard
http://www.zagg.com/images/accessori.../flexPics1.jpg
Not sure about a case just yet though.

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
no-one? :(
it cant be just me who is a bit excited?
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I would be more excited, but I managed to pick up an HP TP when they were on sale for a silly price.
However,I do think the 8GB version,is an excellent price. AFAIK,the USB port can be used to attach flash drives?! If that is the case having USB host abilities will make the Nexus 7 even more useful.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Already have a fruit based product (not the PlayBook! :P ) so probably won't be getting one of these. However I am interested to see how it pans out. My mate may sell his Kindle Fire and get one.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I am super excited about this, literally can't wait to get it. I pre-ordered the 16GB one, im going away for a week soon and wanted something to take with me, I'll throw a few movies and books on it.
I haven't seen any accessories for it yet but.. I have spent literally all of my time watching unboxing and reviews on youtube.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Also ordered a 16GB one, bit of an impulse buy as I dont really use tablets & also have a Galaxy Tab. However the kid will use it alot and if not I'll flog.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
16GB one ordered for the missus and i'm keen to see the difference as compared to my iPad 3. I use a tablet quite a lot (more than I thought I would) and it does appeal to me to have all the features of the android ecosystem (4.1 is great on my GNexus) in tablet form. The keyboard on my iPad drives me potty for example..
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
13 days to go.... I'm more excited over this than I am about my summer holiday.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Is it 13 days till delivery? Im wondering if i might have to get my delivery address changed to my parents as im going to be working up north soon
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I had a nice little bonus from work this month so I've ordered the 16Gb one for my wife. Rather pleased actually. I was going to get her the Asus Transformer so this gets her the same processor in a size thats actually more useful to her as it'll fit in her bag better and saves me 200 quid which I can put towards my new graphics card. Win win situation really.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I like it but I really want the microsoft surface to be honest so I am waiting for it to see what it is like.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
from what i have been reading it seems the reports are mixed about when delivery will occur. Recurring comments are around the 19th-30th but i suppose it will all depend on the demand.

I cant see the surface competing on the same level if im honest, it looks great hardware-wise but the level of design that has gone into it will come at a cost. Certainly wont be near the £160-200 mark
These things are just impulse buy money, they will sell buckets of them.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
looking forward to mine - it was an impluse pre order. I have a TP as well , but after something smaller for travel.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
i love that 10" isnt portable enough ^^
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
It still has to go into a bag - my kindle pretty much fits in a pocket. I fly a lot and hate checking luggage :)
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
same to be honest, i get by ok with my 12" netbook at the moment though, not sure if this thing will truely manage to replace it
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I'm not sure if it woudl be a netbook replacement either. my next task is to downsize my paving slab of a laptop . Its powerfull but not fun to travel with.

Well there's a few posts on reddit and other sites stating that delivery might start as early as the 12th (next thursday). Nothing has been officially confirmed by google. I guess we'll have to just wait and see.

I didn't realize they had ditched the landscape mode for the home screen. Seems an odd decision to make?!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Meh it hasn't bothered me at all, I can't even imagine myself using the home screen in landscape.
Official Asus cases have started to land: http://www.popherald.com/2012-07-08-news-id-3-18614

Got this in an ebuyer e-mail today, seems to be confirming the rumours of 19th July for stock. Perhaps those who used the play store will get their delivery around then?

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
what's up with that little grey Android logo next to the text about the £15 credit?
Is that a Jelly Bean logo in there by mistake? It's the only think I can think that looks like, jelly beans in Android's belly.

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Perhaps not by mistake, is the Nnexus 7 coming with 4.1? I know it will have it eventually, just wondering if it will be the first device with it pre-installed.

Yes, yes it is - and it was shown with it..

Cool, thanks. I've been quite busy so just skimmed the all the announcements that Google made the other week :)

Nexus devices always ship with the latest OS - they're always flagships for them and 'official' google supported devices :)
ASUS have announced some 'official' covers for them too which actually look quite nice.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
They dont double up as a stand though which is a bit crap :(
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
True, but there are others available too if you want that :)
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I e-mailed google a while ago to try and change the delivery address of mine and i heard nothing back from them. Bit of a pain in the arse as i dont fancy international call rates.
Edit: wait its only ireland... doh! Il call them tomorrow
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I'd be excited if I didn't have a playbook - but I do, and it does everything I need it to, so no Nexus 7 for me...
Perhaps down the line a bit.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Turns out i was calling the wrong number anyway, called them up today and the guy said the orders have already been processed so he cant really change the shipping adress, he thought i would have it before the end of next week so it should be ok anyway
If the thing doesnt turn up in time i will probably just refuse the delivery, get a refund and order it from ebuyer or something.
Properly getting excited now, need to order myself some kind of case!
Edit: it seems that all of the third party ones are really thick faux leather... I DONT WANT!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Yup not decided on a case either.. and it's a must for dangel-butter-fingers-Mc-splippy-hands..
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Before the end of next week is nowhere near soon enough, I want it now! I'm looking for a case too, haven't found anything decent yet at all. I'm sure the market will be saturated with them next week though.

I have an iPad classique but been thinking replacing it with one of these. I love the iPad but I wouldn't mind a change of OS and something a bit smaller and lighter as a personal preference.
Its a shame it doesn't have MicroSD (obviously) or 3G - as I still have a few months left of data left on my iPad. Especially as the tablet is so cloud reliant.
Ahhhh the choices!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
If you're on 3's "the one plan" or some o2 tarrifs you can tether for free. This will give you all the access to the clouds that you need!

Still no set in stone release date! Apparently vendors have them, they just aren't allowed to sell them.

Presumably they got the stock out to the vendors first and will tell them they can put them out on the shelves the day the first lot of deliveries for the rest of us trogladites is due to arrive?
Interesting swing on keeping people on their toes; throw so much information out that no-one knows what is correct!

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
from the second link:
Quote:
Update: Unfortunately, it appears the Nexus 7 has reverted to "pre-order" status over at Ebuyer. The site now indicates that the Nexus 7 will be available on July 19th. What isn't clear yet is what will happen to those orders that appeared to have shipped. We're reaching out and will let you know if we find out any more information.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
People in the same thread have got confirmation of their order being shipped. It's reverted back to pre-order though. I duno, hopefully it wasn't some mistake.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
im moderately confident it will have been a mistake, i will be miffed if those who ordered from ebuyer get theirs before i get mine when i ordered from the google play store!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
People that ordered from ebuyer have had theirs shipped today. Confirmed.
sdaskdmaklfndknf, why did I order directly from google!?
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
yeah people have got them now by the looks of it.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/13/g...#disqus_thread
I still dont even have a tracking number though :(
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
noticed on another forum I visit that some indeed got their orders from ebuyer, I have ordered two and 8 gig and a 16gig and no update on the playstore , looks like ebuyer shot the bolt then told to stop maybe ? or maybe it creates more hype who knows, all I know is I can't wait to get my hands on mine, as the playbook has been great and if the Nexus is better I will be delighted :)
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
it was a mistake on ebuyers front from my understanding, they were told to stop selling them pretty quickly. Apparently they are available in some shop fronts in america though.
I wish they would just put an official release date out there >_<
-

Nothing, nothing at all! :(
Apparently the release date is today, was talking to currys call centre earlier (was going to go get one if they were instores) and the guy said they were for release today, just waiting for the go from google. I've gmail set to push emails to my phone and for my bank to text me when i'm charged.. hopefully that'll be today!
I'm going to have to be patient with this, most retailers sold their initial allocation and won't get any till august now.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
So what your saying is that if i was to decline the order i might have to wait a month before i can pick one up from anywhere? What a PITA!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I'd stick with it if I were you. I'm in the same position and it sure would be nice to have some update from Google as to when they expect to ship. I've got to have it before the end of the month..
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Thing is if i dont get it before the end of the week then i dont know when im going to be back down south to pick it up as im working up north on site for at least 2 months :(
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
More info on Engadget, apparently pre-orders have officially started shipping in the UK but i still haven't heard anything :(
http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/17/n...uk-and-canada/
Makes me wonder, if the item hasn't been shipped, a whole week after i called them about changing the address and them saying it was too late as its been processed, why couldn't they have gone in and changed the address? Thier internal ordering system must be complete garbage.
Edit: Apparently PC world have a **** load of them in stock so i ordered from them aswell... which one will get refused delivery or will neither make it on time, place your bets!

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
People are going mad on the G+ #Nexus7 stream (which im actually quite enjoying, I might use google+ more!) about this disaster of a pre-order. Apparently Google are blaming a whole host of things, the biggest one being UPS, i somehow find that quite difficult to believe.

update to the "N7 shipping thing." Due to increased demand, they've run into a snag with their shipping timetables.
Below is their modified schedule:
In the US: We’ve shipped all Nexus 7 8GB orders. By the end of day on July 19 (PDT), we will have shipped all Nexus 7 16GB orders placed through July 11 (PDT), and upgraded these orders to overnight shipping. We will process the remaining Nexus 7 16GB orders by end of next week with overnight shipping.
In Canada: We’ve shipped all Nexus 7 8GB orders. We are in the process of shipping Nexus 7 16GB orders and will ship them in 1-2 weeks.
In the UK: All Nexus 7 8GB orders will ship by July 20 (BST). All Nexus 7 16GB orders placed through June 30 (BST), will ship by July 20 (BST). The remaining Nexus 7 16GB orders will ship next week.
In Australia: All Nexus 7 8GB and Nexus 7 16GB orders will be fulfilled by the end of day on July 19 (AEST) and will arrive in 3-5 days.
I ordered a 16GB on the 10th. So that means I should have it here by Friday.
I cant vouch for the validity of this but.... Grrrrrr, what a pathetic excuse for a 'pre-order'

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I got that email too, it's a little different from their announcement yesterday saying that the wont ship till next week. That is until you click the link and it brings you to the announcment. Currys dont look to have stock left, they're expecting stock on the 24/7 now :(
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Ooooh - mine is out for delivery according to the tracking link in my Google wallet account! It's bloody typical that this is the only day this week that I'm not at home. :wallbash:
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
So in theory mine will ship by the 20th, but does that mean delivery for the 23rd?
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Well they claim to have given everyone free overnight shipping so iit might come on the Saturday? Who knows though to be honest, they have messed up so massively i would take anything they say with a pinch of salt and not expect it till august...
Edit: If you want to call them to try and change the order or anything, they have also removed the ability to talk to their staff directly and it has to be done by e-mail
http://support.google.com/googleplay...olicy=hardware
I have sent them another message to see if i can change address/cancel
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I got the email too - yes I agree, very badly handled here and they should of satifisfied their own play store customers as a priority. I can only take from this that they massively underestimated how popular this would be and had already promised allocation to other outlets some time in advance.
As is, as long as I get it before the 1st of August i'm happy - because that's the wife's birthday.. If not, i'm a dead dangel :(
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Mine has turned up about an hour ago at home, ordered 28th June! Bazzlad has also got his and unboxing photos if your friends with him on Facebook!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I called PC world/Curries as i hadnt had any further e-mails from them so was going to see if i could change the delivery to next day... the first day for delivery form them is next tuesday.... Had to cancel that one aswell then
So fed up of being lied to by support staff >_<

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I have officially given up on the whole thing, come to the realization im not going to get it before i go away. If they agree to change my delivery then il get the one from google in a few weeks, if not then il just see what happens, most likely it will go back and il do without. Might sack it off and wait for this rumoured HTC tablet with a digitiser.

Its not available for reserve and collect but spoke to the store manager as it was opening today and he said they'd put one aside and give me a ring when they get them in. He then rang me about and hour or so ago and I collected it.
Not out on the shop floor yet but worth asking!

Just went to the nearest currys superstore (which is right next to a PC world superstore :/ ) and they said their delivery day is tomorrow. I just dont think its worth all this hassle.
Might have a word with my dad see if he could order it for me then il pay him back
Im a bit miffed i havent heard anything back from the playstore via e-mail. Clearly a lot of angry customers and they are filtering off the e-mails they cant be arsed to deal with.

Well it says the 20th on the website, but the guy in store said they had a delivery tomorrow... so who knows.
A lot of people on G+ and the comments on engadget are claiming they have defects with theirs such as the screen not being fixed in correctly and are having to send them back :(
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Yeah could someone be kind enough to post a review.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
i asked my dad to buy it for me as a preorder from currys (so i can actually pick the damn thing up!), it says the item is not in stock and he will be contacted to arrange a sensible delivery date... yet on the website it says they will come in tomorrow for next day delivery. Lets see what happens with that one.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I ordered the 8Gb on 9th July but changed my mind the very same day and put in a change of order notice for the 16Gb. I got no reply so put in a cancellation request with a view to reordering the 16Gb. Still no reply but I assumed (ha!) it'd be cancelled because I asked them to cancel.
I got a tracking number Tuesday and rang Google Play yesterday where I spent SEVENTY minutes on hold to be told by a pleasant but slow American lady called Nataaaaasha that if I wanted to exchange it for the 16Gb I'd have to "take it my shipping company and refuse delivery and they'll ref......<click>"
I'll probably keep the 8Gb and hope USB-OTG either comes via an update or is available via rooting.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
sounds typical off this pre-order fiasco. USB-otg can be done by rooting the device, i've seen it on XDA somewhere.
I'm pretty pissed that I ordered on the 1st and i'm not going to have it till next week. Currys and tesco have them in stock, for cheaper too. If only I could afford to order one and refuse my GP order.
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I ordered mine on the 29th of June. I don't expect to see it until next week. Not really impressed but thankfully I don't need it until the 1st of august so i'm lucky, I guess..

Apparently there is a code you can use with tesco to get £10 off. It was on HDUK today but im not sure if its still valid, either way im sticking with the plans i currently have. Some Currys/PC World now allow reserve and collect.... booking one for the reading store now and hopefully i will make it there after work.

I'd read a post/article about it but couldn't remember if it was rooted or planned feature.
If I can enable USB-OTG chances are I can mount external devices using StickMount and the ~5Gb storage limit wont matter any more.
Looks like I may keep it so time to find a magnetic case ;)

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Holy carp !!! Its only gorn and shipped!!!!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Well the saga of failings continues for me, the order and collect system for currys/pc world didnt work so i got there thinking... YES FINALLY and they have allocated more than they had in stock.
I called up the customer service line to check the order i put in last night and the guy said they have a delivery arriving tomorrow and mine would definately be in that order as there was more arriving than was on the backlog. That should mean it arrives at my parents by next week and i can collect it at the weekend.
Word of warning to anyone else thinking of using the currys/pc world service, call customer services so they can put you in touch with the store before you go down there as it seems a lot of stores are messing up quantities for collection!
-
Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Mine has just arrived from Currys. Looks ace, not got a real chance to play with it until later. Initial impressions are that is tiny and they've put a lot of thought into the packaging. It's very apple-like, though a touch hard to open the box.

Looking forward to having a real go later.

It appears your device has been delivered already.
If the package is successfully delivered, you can still refuse delivery of
unopened packages within 5 days of delivery. To do so, contact our

I can't be bothered with the hoopjumping, so I'm keeping it and will be cracking it open tonight, hopefully the cases will appear soon.
This is Googles responsibility to manage their own suppliers, what a disgraceful response.

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
Mines here looks brill - very light too. The agony of not being able to play with it till the 1st of august (wife's birthday) will kill me..
I've bought a case for it:

Cheap but until I see something better I think it will do the job. Has the magnets to wake it too.

Mine might ship early this week. It's moved from the bottom of my list to the top and the date has changed to the 19th. Here's hoping!

Guardian is reporting the 16gb Nexus have sold out.
Less demand for 8gb.

Re: Google Nexus 7 Discussion Thread
I had a play with one in pcworld and I was very impressed, for the price it felt very good quality it didn't look naff like the competitors. One thing i did notice was that you had to login to google to really see what Jellybean could do.
The hype has got to me and I've brought the 16gb, it was £174 (£10 discount plus I used some clubcards and I will get £6-7 back via quidco).
