    Re: Iphone 5

Cracking opinion piece from the BBC and pretty much echo's what I've been saying.

The OS is dated and even the Apple people on here like Spud are in agreement that things like widgets are missing. The latest features which Apple users lambasted years ago, like the drop down notification, have now been ported to the OS too.

Speed bumps and better screens are not going to keep Apple alive. The quality of Google Play is now very good, the argument of Apple having better apps is a rapidly shrinking truth.

Can Apple innovate without Jobs? Time will tell.

I think they can, the biggest problem in a large company is being allowed to. Management is key.

Only problem with Google Play is they don't have anywhere near as many apps as iTunes. For example, there's lots of medically orientated apps on the iphone that aren't on googe play. I even spoke to the companies who told me they have no plans to bring out android apps.

It really doesn't matter within reason. It's down to the quality and availability of the apps.

    http://gigaom.com/europe/app-store-i...tartup-adeven/

German mobile analytics firm Adeven says that nearly two-thirds of software in iOS App Store are ‘zombies’ — thanks to a new tool that has counted 400,000 apps which get no downloads, are invisible to users and have no ranking.
2/3rds is a really high stat.

Pretty specialised stuff tho, right? All the big name stuff is cross platform thesedays tbh. I don't find my nexus as struggle versus my iPad for the stuff I do (polar opposite in some cases).

I'm disappointed with the iphone 5 and despite using a plain old Iphone 4, I think I will stick and twist when the Iphone 6/7 comes out

    Re: Iphone 5

Whilst I agree with some of the things in the BBC article I agree that its biased and somewhat exaggerated.

Either way, the iPhone 5 looks fantastic, the hardware is overtaking the software more and more, and in terms of software it is excellent.

For me the one major disappointment is that the damn home button is still there! It's the one thing that always breaks for me on every iPhone! Either way I'm picking up the iPhone 5 soon!

    Re: Iphone 5

If you STILL think iOS and the iPhone can't be beaten, then this clear, succinct article may make you at least think about your opinion..

Even after Apple’s johnny-come-lately improvements, Android phones have a number of key advantages over the iPhone 5.

    Re: Iphone 5

Some pretty poor choices there, from that list what is important to *me* ?...

    - Widgets

Mail attachments and keyboards would be nice, anything else I couldn't care less about. File system would be nice but I have an app on my PC that shows you that anyway.

By no means is the iPhone 5 the best phone ever made but for gods sake neither is any Android phone especially the over large S3.
I'm sick to death of these 'x is better than y' lists for phones, it's totally subjective.

    Agreed.....the big kicker though is:

iPhone = One phone, like it or lump it.

Android = A phone for everyone. There is a (near) perfect Adroid phone for everyone, you just need to find it.

It's my main gripe with Apple and the court cases, they want to stop everyone else from making smartphones.....yet they cannot even make a phone I am happy with.....they can stick their "Our way is the only way" BS.
