    So...the new Iphone 5...

No surprises, nothing to write home about and IMO barely enough to keep up with some of the mid spec new generation of phones. No Galaxy S3/HTC X1 topper here....

Can't be bothered reading the entire live text so I will wait for the highlights. Happy enough with my S3 anyway given that I dislike Apple in almost every way possible .

    Re: So...the new Iphone 5...

So a slightly thinner yet longer 4S with better processing power.

I think enough people must have voiced to them that they don't want a gigantic phone and so they have made an iterative change. It goes well with the Iphone narrative.

    Re: So...the new Iphone 5...

Okay went on BBC and got an outline. Not a lot new really? Seems more like another small jump like the 4s? I am thinking you would be mad to go and get this at the highy prices iPhones are usually released at in the UK. It just makes me sad to see people flocking to it

Small update, will be the same price as the 4S, I'm happy as it means 4/4S will be going down in price

    Re: So...the new Iphone 5...

The rumours and leaks were spot on.

Nothing revolutionary here, nor did I expect or need it. Coming from a 2G iPhone, 5 years of refinement is a quantum leap anyway. I have invested very little in accessories (less than £15 in total) so my loss is relatively limited (that said, I bet that external battery chargers will cost a lot on the new phone). I haven't invested that much in apps, but there is one that I highly value (use it several time every day) that I am reluctant to give up. I also don't mind paying more on the hardware to save the time (which I have little of) in learning a new system.

All that made it an almost guaranteed sale. I was still going to wait for reviews and initial feedback to make sure there were no issues a la iPhone 4, it would be true that my modest requirements and priorities was stacked in favour of the iPhone 5.

But then they included the one possible deal breaker (for me). The bloody nano-sim. Sooner or later I would have to deal with it but later s my definite preference. I can already see how Japanese operators are going to milk iPhone 5 users for all the yens they are worth. The hardware cost difference between the Galaxy and iPhone is, for my purpose negligible and a non-issue. The price difference between a smartphone and non-smartphone (micro-SIM) tariff on the other hand is significant. I do not care (enough) about a fast connection, to pay 2-3x the price for it (in Japan).

I do not upgrade phones often (as obvious with the fact that the two phones I use are 5 and 6 years old respectively), I tend to hold my phones until they are almost unusable (to that end, my iPhone has perhaps been too well built). So I am hopeful that by the time I upgrade next, nano-sim would either 1. have died, 2. been around long enough that one can find cheaper tariff on them too.

Siri, FB/Tweeter integrations are things I can easily live without. The e-Wallet is attractive IF it can gain traction (unproven). And I am hopeful that other OS have/will have a competent equivalent.

tldr: It's no game changer, but that would've been fine for me if it had kept the micro-sim. Now I am considering is getting both the S3 and a Touch (unless I get confirmation pretty soon that one can trim a regular/micro-sim down to nano-sim). Yes that $20 application I use daily is worth that much to me. And yes, I do expect the nano-sim tariff to be so much more expensive than my current tariff that I am better off getting a Touch for the apps.

    Re: So...the new Iphone 5...

I think Apple are making a mistake by becoming complacent with their designs, they need to diversify the models offered to cover different people's needs. For example, the 4S is fine in terms of size and shape for some people, so updating the internals as one model, and then using the iphone 5 as a "flagship" model would have made more sense to me.
