My Nexus One is getting old in the tooth...and dropped a fair few times now.
I've not been keeping up with phones, so what's a good replacement?
It needs to be:
- SIM Free
- Work on Japanese network carrier frequencies
- Use a normal size SIM card
- Be roughly the same size or slightly larger
- Easily bought when I visit the UK later this year
- Wi-Fi, Blue Tooth and GPS
At the moment the Android OS is pretty good with the Japanese keyboard plugin I use, but if there is a Win Phone or even Apple (do they even use a normal size SIM anymore??!), then I'm willing to have a look.
If people are curious why I don't want to get a smartphone via contract here, the answer is simple: cost. You pay 200 quid for the phone, then 80 quid per month for 2 years. The UK has it so good...So I use a pocket Wi-Fi for about 20 quid a month, then a simple normal call plan. You can't get a normal call plan if you get a smartphone. You have to sign up for the 80 quid a month job.
I've looked at the Galaxy S3 and it's pretty good, if a little on the large size and I've seen people with the HTC One J (re-branded S), and that looks alright too, but there must be more choices out there, right? Plus I don't need it for gaming or anything like that. Calls, texts emails and internet access are what I need...oh and maps so I can find my way! Haha.
