    Really BBC, really...

It was introduced in the United States on June 29, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_(original)

How about HTC who started 5 years earlier!!!!!!

Almost as annoying as when my lecturer in Business 'something or other' (not my core subject) told the room that Apple invented the MP3 player

Apple brought it to the masses tbh. I'm not a fan of apple after all the lawsuits etc, but the windows mobile phones devices were fairly clunky clumsy devices ( I had too) apple made them properly user friendly for the masses.

I am so fed up of the BBC being so in love with apple though. Their tech reporter Rory *someone* is an huge apple fan boy and mentions apple in most of his articles in one way or another. No attempt to be even handed or impartial, which really frustrates me.

Apple really sicken me with there sue anyone mentality and the way they treat the staff.

I don't get there pricing of devices either. To me its just profiteering.

Wouldn't surprise me of Apple pay the media to report on them as the messiah of tech.

Oh no a company trying to make a profit, heaven forbid...

People are free not to pay it if they don't want to. Free market after all. Anyway that's all O/T.

The BBC is having to cater for the idiot masses, and whilst I don't agree with a lot of the 'dumbing down' that has happened it can occasionally still surprise me with some good content.

they are correct as far as the word goes, pioneer doesn't simply mean "first". perhaps ignorance of english language in the forums should be a more appropriate thread title

Ouch. I don't mind being told I'm wrong when I am, but please at least read the quote; it has the word "early" before "pioneer".

I agree. The quote apparently ignores smart phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, HP and HTC some of which were available around 2002/3 a good four to five years before the iPhone so it's hard to see how Apple could be described as an 'early' pioneer when they were already half a decade behind other companies when they released the iPhone.

Re: Ignorance of technology in the media

So smartphones have been around since 1994 commercially. The year is currently 2012. Are you saying the 'early' period between 1996 and 2012 includes 2005?
Last edited by jimbouk; 12-10-2012 at 01:18 PM. Reason: 1994 not 1996 apparently, the Nokia Communicator whilst cooler was not the first

no. you are getting too hung up on the meaning of the word early rather than the meaning of the word pioneer

if you look up pioneers of most things you will see a wide range of years being covered, depending on what they achieved. whether you consider the 2000-2004 period early when they were working on the ipad before the iphone or the 2004-2007 period when they developed the iphone or the unveiling in january 2007, they were still early pioneers in what they achieved

you seem to have read the article and thought it means they were one of the first to make smartphones, misunderstanding the meaning of pioneer

the fact that how you want to define early in relative terms is another kettle of fish altogether, as you could say that we are still in the early days of smartphones, but ignoring that makes no difference anyway

    Well that escalated quickly.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Ignorance of technology in the media

It is probably done on purpose to pander to some companies though and Apple is a huge company. Of course sensationalism is becoming a bigger and bigger part of technology reporting too.

    I saw this too:

    http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/20...d-revenue-q3/1

On its own, yeah it looks bad news for AMD. However, the article neglects to mention some little things like the following:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...-a-decade.html
