    Nokia 820 review

    I took the plunge.
I got a Nokia Lumia 820 on O2. £104 for the handset, with wireless charger plate. £21 a month for 200 minutes, unlimited texts, 500 meg (or thereabouts). I was on GiffGaff at £10 a month, so figured that £11 a month extra was OK.

First impressions: It set up nicely. Being in my mid 30s, and therefor old, I was initially a little confused about the importing of contacts from my hotmail, Gmail, outlook, facebook, twitter and LinkedIn, but being able to filter down by category sorts that out. I still find it a little odd that the contacts are stored on your default Hotmail account (or mine, anyway) rather than the old "on phone/ on sim" that I was used to, but I can see the logic. And it'll force me (as I'm a bit particular about this) to tidy up my contacts, as I couldn't believe some of the names it dragged in from years back. So, yeah, happy with that.

Haven't sussed tethering yet. I mean, I can see the options, but guess I might have to buy a bolt on for that. Which takes me to the settings: easy as pie. Easy to navigate. Happy with that.

I'm happy with the build. The cover is, if anything, perhaps a little slippy, but that might also be my over protective "new phone" nerves. The weight is good, just about right, with a nice solid heft. Call quality so far is good.

I'm digging the tiles. Would have been nice for a little thought to perhaps go into an idea like randomly cycling the Metro tiles colours, as they all look good and something like "rotate colours every hour" would presumably be fairly easy to do.

Photos confused me a bit, as it pulled down all myfacebook albums. "Why?" i thought, then realised that it's really aiming at the young crowd again. I'm more interested in whatever photos I take with the phone, and I can get to them easily with the photoroll. Haven't really tried the camera yet.

I'm not a mobile gamer, so games or lack thereof on the phone does not bother me. I'll be trying out the mobile office thing shortly. Getting the phone has prompted me to get Skydrive.

Overall, I'm happy I went for this phone. My wife has an iPhone, and I was tempted to get one, but just fancied something a bit different. I prefer Windows 8 over android already, though my HTC Desire (original one) was getting a bit slow.

Sorry that's not terribly indepth on some features, but just thought I'd share. Anyone got any questions? Happy to answer any queries anyone may have.

    Re: Nokia 820 review

Its nice to actually hear some user feedback regarding these new nokia's, ive got the older lumia 800 waiting for the 7.8 update which is basically WP8 but coded for the single core processors the older devices used..

But thanks alot for taking the time to make this write up.

One thing i'd like to know though.. i found a strange bug with the WP7 system, if you set an alarm on the phone to go off around say.. 11:59am the snooze feature doesnt work im guessing as soon as it clicks over into PM it actually resets any alarms currently active also leaving them on to go off the next day even if they arnt set to go off multiple days of the week, if you get the chance can you see if this problem was solved on the WP8 OS ? thanks..

Nice review, i bought the 820 recently too. Its a lovely phone, a lot slicker than my old hd7. I think the screen is probably my favourite aspect of the phone, very crisp and clear. I recommend trying the Nokia maps app, its great, especially so when you download the maps to your phone. Also Nokia city lens is usefull if a little gimmicky.
