    Improve phones auto-correct?

I am a fast typer but one who makes lots of mistakes because of my silly small fingers and fat thumbs.

30% of my mistakes are picked up and changed automatically, however the other 70% I have click on them (underlined red) and select the top word in the list as 90% of the time that's the word I meant.

Is there any way to automate this? So the phone presumes that top word is what you want t and changes it without me having to confirm it?

I am using the standard android ICS keyboard, and have never really got on with swipe, swift key etc. I need a bit space and large, uncluttered keys.

Cheers guya <--- prime example, phone underlines that as spelt wrong but I have to manually tell the phone to correct it to 'guys'... surely if the word you typed isn't in the phones dictionary it *should* correct it to whatever is closest!!!!

Thats strange, I typed in 'guya' into my android device and it recommended 'guys' for me. Guya was a secondary recommendation which it will only remember as a default word if I ever use it with any frequency at all.

Perhaps you can try clearing the dictionary by going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Once there, scroll down and select 'Touch Input' then the 'Clear Data' button.
This will only clear saved words and not the actual english dictionary for prediction.

Oh yeah my phone recommended 'guys' but I want it to auto-change to the most recommended word as default, then I will go back and correct wrong words at the end.

You need to pick to correct word as you type it, pressing space or enter on an incorrect suggestion makes android think that was the word you wanted and will save it. The more often you select that word, the more likely it will use it as a default suggestion.

    Re: Improve phones auto-correct?

Yeah, I do that but after experimenting with it (ie typing in the wrong spelling of a word and 'selecting' the right spelling of it several times) I failed to teach the phone. I don't see how this doesnt exist though, just forcing the phone to take the most likely word (ie from the 'select' list) and auto-implementing it??

My experience with SwiftKey has been absolutely perfect, although I too dislike the JB dictionary thingy..

Have you tried the recent versions of SwiftKey?

What about Go keyboard? That automatically inserts the most likely candidate when you press space. Or comma or full stop.

At some point you'll just need to leave the default one behind. Swiftkey is quite configurable, so perhaps give it another try? The speed of writing using it for me goes up dramatically.

Kinda relevant but has anyone seen that interactive BB advert on YT,? It's basically a typing speed between your handset and the BB. My laggy DHD beat the BB by a bit, but every time i beat it it said 'oops, you've made a spelling error'

    In short :

    SwiftKey >
