    Nexus7 - Worth it?

    Hi,

I currently have a Desire HD phone and use it a lot for browsing, watching iPlayer / catchup TV, email, music etc and although the screen is pretty good it can be a bit small at times. I would use my laptop but the wife hates the noise of the fan while we are in bed so I have to stick to using my phone.

I am wondering if a Nexus 7 is a worthwhile buy in this situation or should I save for a 10?

    Re: Nexus7 - Worth it?

I have both 10" and 7" Android tablets, the smaller one is a Nexus 7. The reason I use the Nexus 7 so much is that is extremly portable, and easy to handle. I havent really bothered with the larger tablet since geting the 7, unlike larger tablets, betbooks, etc you dont need a bag or sleaver to carry it, its just about fits in a large pocket. Since the wife "borrowed" my Kindle I have been using the 7 as an ebook reader, again its size is a benefit as its easy to hold single handed. If your purely looking for a home device I would consider a 10", but I actually prefer the easy of handling of the smaller tablets.

Absolutely love my Nexus 7, use it daily, mostly in bed at night watching Netflix

Depends, IMO, on your priorities, 'cos it'll be a tradeoff between portability and screen size/resolution.

If it's for carrying about, the 7 is hard to beat. If it's for use about the house, the 10 gives a much better feel, albeit at a cost of extra weight.

As for saving, well I don't know if the deal is still on but John Lewis were doing a16GB samsung tab 2 10.1 at £195, and there was/is (check it) a Samsung cashback of £50 on top of that, giving a total cost of £145 for the 10.1 tablet.

I use a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and can't imagine going for any of the 7" tablets on the market. Phones are hitting the 4"+ mark almost as standard now, so its not enough of a step up for me - t he 10" screen is great for games and films on the go and works well in man size hands.

    Re: Nexus7 - Worth it?

Just depends on personal preference really. I got rid of my iPad because I felt I needed a slightly smaller device, and the Nexus 7 filled that spot perfectly. It's superbly priced for the performance and capabilities of the device too, never imagined I could get something this fast and good for the price that it's at!

It depends on personal preference, but the Nexus 7 is a solid tablet albeit with an under powered Tegra 3 chip (if you root it you can safely overclock it to a fairly decent speed though). My dad has a Nexus 7 and loves it. I have a Samsung Note 10.1 and much prefer its front facing speakers and the S Pen functionality. You need to try the form factors out and see what suits you best. I like both 7 and 10 inch tablets but if I have to pick one its the 10in model for me.

    Re: Nexus7 - Worth it?

I got a nexus 7 a few months ago and have used it almost every day since. Initially I was wondering whether I would use it at all over my laptop but it is very useful for light browsing and apps. Netflix and youtube are also very good on the nexus. If you require additional space and dont want to root it, I recommend buying the Nexus Media Importer app. It allows you to access and stream files (such as pictures and videos) from a usb flash drive via an OTG cable to the nexus.

    Re: Nexus7 - Worth it?

For all around media consumption the Nexus 7 is a no brainer. It's a brilliant tablet with solid performance and a great screen. I've had mine for nearly a year now and I still use it every day for reading books and magazines, watching Netflix and iPlayer and a bit of gaming too. Its a great buy and 16 Gb should be fine for most users.

    Re: Nexus7 - Worth it?

I dunno if the OP has bought his N10 now, but the new N7 is a solid device. £190 for the 16gb is an absolute steal since it comes with a 1200p screen, stereo speakers, S4 pro processor etc.

Although the new N10 may be looming around October time, however the new N7 is absolutely worth it.

    Re: Nexus7 - Worth it?

My last post recommended the Nexus 7 when I was talking about the original model, now the new for 2013 model is out I'd wholeheartedly recommend the newer model. If budget is tight I suppose the original will drop in price or someone can buy mine off me!
