    Earphones always stop working eventually

I had an mp3 player during Uni and never changed the earphones once. I used the player non stop for 4 years and it didn't stop working (probably still works).

Anyway, it seems that no matter which earphones I have or which phone (have used a HTC G1, a HTC Desire and now a HTC One X) they eventually stop working.

To start with one of the earphones will stop working. Pretty sure something is happening to the jack, because if I move it around a bit the connection is reformed and it works again, right up until I move it even slightly (which is a problem when walking).

I listen to my phone about 2, 2.5 hours a day (with around 40-50 minutes of this being walking) during my commute but that doesn't seem like excessive use to me? I like to think I am careful with it and I always pull the cable out by the jack (and not the cable itself).

Does anyone else find this? Or is it just me? : /

Re: Earphones always stop working eventually

Had the same thing yesterday! Mine lasted about 3 years, although they weren't used as much as yours. The cause of failure in mine was pretty obvious as you can see the outer casing of the cable is broken at the jack, and this is causing 1 earphone to stop working most of the time.

I've found though that the right angle jack designs (blue below) are more resistant to damage so end up lasting longer.

I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

yep happens to me too, must have been through at least 4 sets in the last year, some very expensive too.

Panasonic, 2 sets of Denon, Shure, Etymotic have fallen by the wayside, currently using HRA and Logitech Triplefi 10's.

Re: Earphones always stop working eventually

Thanks MBlaster, I will look out for that next time I buy some.

Jim: oof, luckily I've never spent that much money on a pair (and now, I don't think I ever will!)

    Thanks you two

Edit: Anyone care to recommend a set of earphones which have the right angles jack (or just a jack that is very well made!)?
    Ta!
