Nokia Lumia 620 - Late January release in the UK

    Some details on knowyourmobile.com:

Should be interesting to see what happens with this, as Nokia had a good Q4 in 2012. I wonder how it'll stack up against the HTC 8s? No info on a MicroSD it appears yet, the HTC 8S supports one up to 32GB.

This is going to do some good numbers (at least in Asia).

Wired.co.uk has reviewed it; gave it 7/10, saying the lack of apps is holding it back, fairly positive otherwise.

Well I got tired of sitting on my hands or chewing my leg off etc and so I decided to go for a Nokia Lumia 620 .. and now I have one front of me! I really like Windows Phone 8 and think the UI experience is so much better than Android. Very slick indeed!
The clincher was seeing the price of Lumia 720 come out at £380+ on Amazon and then saw the price of the 620 hovering around £180 and decided on the latter. Hexus have already have reviewed the 620, but I might chip in a few thoughts on how I get on with it.. I think I'm going to like using this phone!

I find it really odd that people talk about the lack of apps on WP.

Which apps? The maps app is better than any of the ones I found on iOS or Android! It's offline ability is simply top notch.

There are edge cases which its inflexibility do show through however, but tbh I find them not to be much of an issue.

Shame you paid £180 for Lumia 620. Carphone Warehouse was selling them for £130 as PAYG and likely to be sim free too though I believe you have to do a £10 top up.

As for apps - quality is more important than quantity.

Re: Nokia Lumia 620 - Late January release in the UK

Hmm.. just had a look at the cpw site to see... they are chucking in a free windows 8 upgrade too! lol Oh well, I've got it now.

Yes, apps are not really a problem as the WP user base grows so will the apps library. Barclays don't have a WP app yet, but I just login using the barclays.mobi site anyway. Channel 4 have released a 4oD app for Windows 8, so a WP app is therefore a possibility. To be honest though, I can't remember the last time I watched Channel 4. At least, Windows Phone is at least getting acknowledged as existing and a platform for development in future.

What I find funny is, most of the apps that people keep harping on about is only to keep up with the Jones'. Apart from Instagram, what are the main apps that people keep referring to? Temple Run even just came the other day.

I'd imagine the S4 mini to be competing against a higher level phone than the 620?

Haha, probably a lot more considering how much the S3 mini costs...

Re: Nokia Lumia 620 - Late January release in the UK

I've been using the 620 for a few months now, got a refurb one from O2 very cheap, and run it on GiffGaff.

Love it. I'm not really missing any apps at all, and new things appear all the time. I'm aware that there are great apps on iPhone/Android that I don't have, but it's not impacting on my day. The unique Nokia apps are remarkably good, WPCentral.com keeps me up to date on new happenings, and I've got plenty of great free and pay apps. Unless you're obsessed with having the phone that excels in all areas - which strikes me as a bit of a stat-crazed hiding to nothing - you're bound to find something to love among the Lumias, and the cheap ones are excellent value for money.

I am using this mobile from last 2 months and it is fantastic .. Apps is not a problem. Now you have enough free apps available for windows mobiles..Loads of free mobile games, free photo editing apps, etc. Infact lists of free windows mobiles apps are getting longer n longer.

Yes, I'm really happy with my 620 after 5 months.. Although 6 months old here is a good review of the 620 which help me go for it over the HTC 8S:
