    O2 ditching chargers from 2015

Makes sense, as long as they still give out the USB cables. Mine are always going missing. As long as the chargers they give out between now and the cutoff are the modular types where you can just stick any USB cable in them, I'll be happy.

Makes sense, just so long as cheap ones are available with them for people who don't have one already. Hopefully it won't go down the PC World route of selling you a printer for £30 then trying to sell you a premium USB cable for £10 on top...

Re: O2 ditching chargers from 2015

The people that have commented on the site don't seem to get it. 'I don't want to have to use my PC to charge'. No, you could use one of the thousands of other chargers you have lying around...

I think people think you can only charge your device with the charger that came with it, cos the electricity's different...

Re: O2 ditching chargers from 2015

The problem I find is that when I go home someone else tries to steal my charging cable/charger and I end up have to charge through my PC or only use one cable between my phone, my kindle and other peoples phones.

It's still infinitely better than the days of having a nokia charger, a sony ericcsson charger, blackberry, and all sorts. And they were ALWAYS sold at a premium. You can get USB chargers for nothing from China and they do the same job. Although my brother does claim that the plug he uses for his SII is designed to charge faster or something. But he might have been comparing to connected to a PC.

Re: O2 ditching chargers from 2015

Long overdue IMO, but as above I hope decent chargers are still available for a reasonable price. If they cost too much or are hard to find, a lot of people will likely result to the deathtraps available very cheaply on eBay, or the 'genuine' ones available even on Amazon. Similar story for cables; the ones you get supplied with devices are usually good quality, but try finding one of similar quality for a reasonable price.

Basically, keep all the decent chargers and USB cables you get with stuff, where possible, in a safe place.

Re: O2 ditching chargers from 2015

I find it's the Micro USB cables that go walkabout. We've got 3 or 4 USB chargers that stay in the wall, then get the cable changed depending on what's charging, but you can never find the micro USB when you need it...

Re: O2 ditching chargers from 2015

A universal charger (provided it be decent) would be awesome to have. Shame there aren't any affordable ones. Clever thing for o2 to do but I can see it being a problem when selling phones to customers who are upgrading to different phone models

Pretty much everyone besides Apple are using micro-USB now.

Re: O2 ditching chargers from 2015

I'm sure they trialed something similar a few years back...

In terms of charges I have loads of them hanging around the house from previous phones, Now that the world and his dog (sans apple) Use MicroUSB for their connections then this is a logical thing.)

It`d be nice if meant a change in price for the customer(i know it might only be a tenner but a tenner in my pocket is better than their pocket )
