    Re: iOS vs Android

On Android you see icons at the top telling you what type of alert has come through. Granted you cant go straight to it from lock screen but its still a matter of unlocking then pulling down the notification bar instead of pull down the notification bar and then unlock...

Widgetlocker allows you to put music controls on the lock screen as well as things like go launcher

Just to clarify, you don't pull down the notification bar on iOS to get to the notification. You swipe the notification icon itself.

    https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...ahxLuoYby8#i=8

In the above picture, I would swipe the green text icon from left to right, type in my unlock code, and the phone would unlock at the text i swiped from.

Sounds like you should have gone for one of HTC's latest offerings rather than the Nexus 4.

Android all the way in my opinion, with Jelly Bean it is great.

Just discovered dashclock widget that I think does what you want in terms of notifications, but 4.2 required (shouldn't be a problem for a nexus)

    Re: iOS vs Android

I have Android and really like it. I am also developing an own app for Android (sg. similar to the one you can find if you google on:voip-sip-sdk/p_456). In my opinion Android is very good. On the other hand I have never used an iPhone so I cannot compare their features. I would vote for Android.

    Re: iOS vs Android

I moved from an S2 to the iphone 5, I miss the widgets but I like the size and feel of the iphone much more. I have an aversion to this new craze of bigger screen, wider phone, 1080p on a phone!

I like both android and the ios I just think the iphone is a better feeling phone size wise and thing larger and I can't do things with one hand might as well use a tablet but I can't get a tablet into my trouser pockets.

Here's what I told my customers are Carphone Warehouse and EE

If you want simplicity, iOS. If you want more, Android. It's all dependent on the user. There's no better one.

I much prefer Android OS due to the customisation of it although iOS is good for someone wanting simplicity

    Re: iOS vs Android

Seems like there is one feature that work on 4S that apparently doesn't play on Android: BLE (Bluetooth SMART). Most recent Android handset have (allegedly) the hardware support, but Google is taking their sweet, sweet time to implement it. For most people, including me till last week, it's not something that matters or even went noticed. But anyone is shopping for a Bluetooth heart rate monitor (e.g. me), or worse, has already bought a BLE HRM on the assumption that it should work on recently released Android hardware will have noticed. Yes, there is still the option of using Bluetooth 2 based HRM, but I understand that those go through batteries faster and it seems a bit silly to go for an older tech when buying it now (especially given that the newer one can be found cheaper). I really did not think that I would be giving up anything other than better iOS exclusive apps that I have use for, and better Japanese input (IMO) when shifting to Android but there are still easily missed details. Well, to be fair, it seems that the support for BLE on the Lumia 920 is also work in progress..

I think I read that Bluetooth was getting a much needed update from Google in 4.3.

    Re: iOS vs Android

I used to have a Desire HD (personal) and an iPhone 4 (work).......I got 'upgraded' to an iPhone 5 and then I upgraded my Desire to a HTC One.

Now, you could say I am biased as the Android phone(s) is mine......but I do keep finding things that make me wonder how Apple have sold so many iPhones and at the price they have!

This morning for instance, someone asked "How do I stop my iPhone auto connecting to an open Wifi?"......I naively assumed there was a checkbox like Android....hahaha...NO. The iPhone has a tick box to ask (regardless of whether it's open or not), which it seems to ignore.....and it then connects to Wifi APs alphabetically....

And that demonstrates 99% of problems I see with iOS devices.....they try to make them simple to use and end up removing way to much functionality....and all for an extra £200+!!!

    Re: iOS vs Android

Hmm.. As I recall, and unless things have changed (I never went beyond iOS 5.x). the iPhone does not auto-connect to a network (even open ones) unless you have connected to it before. And that can still be undone that by choosing to "forget" the chosen network.

Am I the only one experiencing semi-regular (once a week or so) software crashes on my S3? e.g. "Gallery has stopped working".
