    Nexus 4 vs Optimus 4X HD...who wins?

    Hi.

It sounded like a no contest situation but let me try and weigh in what i know so far based on what i have read on various well-known websites and the hundreds of videos on Youtube.

Here is my list of negative things about the Optimus 4X HD:
    1. Very bad autofocus on camera
    2. Lags galore when playing graphics-intensive games (which you would expect a quad-core phone can handle)
    3. Wifi issues - when held in a specific way
    4. Very poor speaker output and/or audio output quality
    5. Poor battery life even though its 2150mAh
    6. Noticeable heat generated from the back/battery source when using for a considerable amount of time.

Now, Here is the negative things on the Nexus 4:
    1. Short battery life - even at 2100mAh and with minimal usage it still doesn't quite last for a whole day even on standby.
    2. A not-so sharp screen - using this so-called "grey screen" test it was shown to be weaker than the previous-gen Galaxy Nexus
    3. Wifi bugs - again when the phone is held in a specific way the wifi signal becomes affected
    4. Muffled incoming calls
    5. Frequency distortions when a headphone is connected
    6. Weak & tiny speakers sound (just like Galaxy Nexus)
    7. Very poor speaker grill placement
    8. An "average" camera photos

Notice something? Almost identical issues. And the phones have almost identical specs as well.

So, who would you go for? And why?

Are these list actually non-issues and have been resolved with the latest updates?

    Please advice. Thanks.

As a Nexus 4 owner, albeit with a custom rom, I dont recognise half of those problems, where's that crap coming from??

Camera is better than my Galaxy Nexus though not as good as an S3, no muffled incoming calls, no wi-fi bugs at all, screen is fine once calibrated (looks washed out if not), no frequency distortions with headset & I use one all day long. And talking of all day long, that's how long my battery lasts, and all night long too. (Franco Nightly kernel). Will admit it does have crap speakers and poor speaker grill placement though.

The LG Optimus G is the phone closest to the Nexus 4 hardware wise, not the 4X HD. So out of the two I'd still go for the Nexus 4 any day of the week. LG hardware but pure Google software equals winning combination with a great price to boot. The 4X HD has a locked bootloader and no chance of custom roms so you're reliant on LG's roms and lets just say that they've not covered themselves in glory on this front...ever.

I can't talk about the Optimus 4X HD but I have a Nexus 4 and it's absolutely amazing. I really can't find fault with it. Hardware wise it's nearly as good as an S3 but is half the price so it's a no brainer personally.

Purely for the fact that you get Android updates straight away, I'd go Nexus 4.

    Jimborae,

Albeit without the custom ROM that you have installed would you say the same thing as regards the list i just mentioned earlier?

Nexus 4 by a mile. Optimus 4X runs Tegra 3 which is horrible.

And the N4 is probably still cheaper. It's a total no brainer.
