Seems like a bit of 'No, don't look over there, it's not as good as what we've got. There's no point looking, we've got everything you need. I SAID DON'T LOOK!. Oh buggrit.'

Apple spoiler? Have the band split up? We can only dream...
Well if they take themselves seriously as a competitor I'd be disappointed if they didn't try and reduce the impact of a rival's launch.
He is actually correct in a few points, when people sell platforms on the number of Apps it is important to note the fragmentation limits what can actually work.
Aditionally the review system on Google Play is problematic, what is a 5 star experiance on one phone, might well be a 0 star on another, despite the fact its listed as compatable, because there are simply too many to test, and it works fine on most.
However, I disagree heavily with the notion that more user id's are needed. Google has been doing their level best to oust anything that isn't them, with the whole installed by default and available by default (as you've given it your account details already, unlike that pesky competitor you'd have to sign up for). But unlike Apple, they don't block competitors directly from their store, so he can fornicate right off on that point.
