    Re: The HTC One

I'm afraid I only have a standard N300 hub, what app are you using to test though so I can compare? I find Wi-Fi and 3G speeds to be exceptional on the One.

Hi Ben, thanks for the reply, using the SpeedTest.net app to measure speed which is good enough for these purposes.

I've also posted on XDA and Modaco to see if anyone else has noticed this odd behaviour.

    Cheers

    Re: The HTC One

Well I've bitten the bullet and returned my Black HTC One back to Vodafone. May end up getting a silver one but I doubt it. It really wasn't a big enough upgrade over my Nexus 4 and despite being a Sense lover when I had a Desire a few years ago, I now find it a hindrance compared to vanilla Android.

    Re: The HTC One

Ah that's a real shame :\ - Still really happy with my silver one, no issues at all and can't see really what detracts from Android on the HTC One, I also have a Huawei Ascend P1 which has stock android and it's nice but no better.

Anyway, Finally got around to doing speedtest.net...

    Results were:

    Ping: 27ms,
    Down: 46968kbps
    upload: 4137kbps

    That's on a 60MBit VM connection

Lol I held a decoy on display at P4U. That is as far as my experience goes with it.

As far as its not much of an upgrade on Nexus 4 I am not so sure I agree. The area it is strong in the Nexus 4 is weak at.

    Re: The HTC One

The screen is better than the NExus 4, the speakers are better than the Nexus 4 and the build quality is better than the NExus 4. But is it worth replacing my Nexus 4 with this, not to me it isn't, at least not yet anyway. And having owned both I'm comfortable with my decision to return the HTC One, if and when good vanilla android builds come out for this phone then I may review my decision again but until then I'll stick with Nexus 4.

    Re: The HTC One

I've had mine since the 18th and basically, loving it. I have to qualify that by saying that I came from a HTC Sensation, so a much bigger leap (Physically and otherwise) than if I had had a One X or Nexus 4. The build quality is the thing that surprised me the most when I first opened the box. The weight and thefeel of it was just great, it feels svelte without being slippery and weighty without being too heavy. All subjective but just my thoughts.

Tried to live with Blinkfeed, but I use plenty of my own tech site apps and aggregators, so safely moved it over to the leftmost homescreen and removed all sources so there was no background syncing. Its effectively like turning it off, without turning it off. The screen is fantastic, and coupled with the speed, makes full fat pages a joy to browse, something that I would not even consider on my Sensation - even with a speedy CM10 rom on it.

Battery wise, I would say that I could easily get 15 hours of life with about 4 hours screen time (ie. Checking things, apps, whatsapping, not gaming). When I've been busier and not really touched it as much, I've had it go more than a day, but I charge overnight so not that relevant anyway. The only time I will charge in the day is if I know that I will be taking a lot of photos or gaming. Cant really complain about the battery life, and if you look at the battery stats thread on XDA then thats about the same as most people get, obviously varying based on usage.

My favourite - the camera Its not 100% fantastic, but I'm sure that it will have tweaks in later updates, but for now, it takes pretty much all I need to when I want to, and I have found that I am capturing more moments that I would have missed on my old phone. Love the way that the gallery can be split into 'events' and then for each event an auto highlights reel is made. Often a nice way to look over a day out. There is a massive thread on XDA, which I'm part of actually, if you want samples.

All in all, I keep finding reasons to want to use it, and to just pick up Initially, I did miss some of the cool things that my CM10.1 rom had, but after a week, I'm totally 100% in love with this phone. Not really liked a device as much since my N95 probably. Had plenty of random people stop me and ask to hold it etc, and all really impressed with the device.

    Jonny

Looks like a cracking deal to me.... Still loving mine, and just got my Pebble smartwatch which works seamlessly with it along with the Pebble Notifier app.

    Re: The HTC One

I managed to get hold of the black version through Dialaphone/Orange last week but it had some marks on the top near the power button and small dots of paint on the back were gone exposing some silver. I've arranged to have it sent back and have a replacement sent out, I hope they have these in stock still especially after the issues over patents for the microphone - http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...injunction-htc

My mate just got the silver one, much phone envy ensued. Now I'm very tempted, but still enough self control to wait on for the black version, which seems fairly rare at the moment.

    Re: The HTC One

Forget the Z10, it's still W.I.P. at moment from my limited time with it. Personal experience of the HTC One is it's a well built and engineered phone, some say it's better than the S4, others not. I've not tried an S4 yet so can't say. I think the best thing is to decide what's important to you, i.e. screen size, build quality, features etc and then see which fit's the bill.
