    The HTC One

So, I just got a cracking deal on an upgrade to a HTC One through the Orange early upgrades team at Phones4U. They made it almost too good not too take.

    Free HTC One / 600 mins / unlimited text / 1GB data - £31 a month.

They've also rebated me the £101 it cost in early termination fees to upgrade my contract that doesn't expire officially until July - Great stuff.

As for the phone itself, well it looks like a corker, hopefully not too big for my relatively small hands, the ONLY downside I could see is lack of Micro-SD, but it does have 32GB of storage so should be fine!

    Full specs found here: http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-one/

    Re: The HTC One

Yes i Have a black one on pre-order with Vodafone. But the bar-stewards have failed to secure stock and now HTC are delaying things, so thinking of cancelling it and waiting for the SGS4. However it does look a corker. (the HTC that is).

At the moment I'm testing a few phones for work and the last few days have been using:

Nokia 920, 820, Samsung Ativ S, Motorola Razr HD, Razr i and HTC One SV plus aload of cheapo tablets & chinese phones. Currently I'm really liking the Moto RAZR i, very fast, great size for a pocketabilty, good bug free software, Jelly bean update iminent, rootable and best of all phenomenal battery life for a small android phone.

    Re: The HTC One

I decided to go for the silver. The rumour is that it's been delayed due to a few anodising issues with the black that are causing it to chip / scratch easily. Should get mine Tuesday all being well.

Have to say, the SGS4 just doesn't interest me. I liked the S3 in some respects but the plastic just feels cheap by comparison and the new features of the SGS4 almost all appear to be ridiculous gimmicks. I review phones for another website that I couldn't possibly mention here.... So I've had a chance to play with nearly all the recent phones luckily, and the One just trounces them all from what I've seen. I was very impressed with the hardware of the HTC 8X but Windows Phone is just still too immature of an OS without enough customisation and a poor selection of apps for me to want to switch.

Nokia 820 / 920 - Nice phones, particularly the 920 feels very nicely built but quite chunky.
Ativ S - IMHO a boring Windows phone, nothing to be excited about.
Moto RAZR HD - Was a good phone when America got it 6 months ago but it's too late to the party now, although I'm interested to see what Moto do with Google that is rumoured to be launched at Google I/O.
RAZRi - A fantastic smaller phone, shame it doesn't have a "HD" screen but it's still a great screen, very fast and their version of Android has just about the right amount of modifications. Main problem - Intel chipset is incompatible with a fair few apps.
HTC One SV - Haven't tried this one.

If you're liking the RAZR i but can be patient, I'd seriously wait until May to see what happens at Google I/O, I think you'd be pissed if you bought the RAZRi and then it was trumped by their new line-up of phones.

    Re: The HTC One

Hey Ben your thoughts are exactly like mine, I was really looking forward to getting the Ativ S in my hands but it was a big disappointment. As you say plastic fantastic and boring compared to the Nokias both hardware & software wise.

Not bought any of those phones just testing them for 3G small cell and LTE network compatibilty so I'll probably keep the RAZR i on long term loan along with a couple of others. My personal phones are the Nexus 4 and HTC One, if it arrives, so like you I'm really looking forward to Google I/O.

    Re: The HTC One

I very nearly bought a Nexus One, but the lacking internal storage (without Micro-SD) and the slightly girly sparkling effect on the rear mostly put me off. I also wanted to have a device that would be "future proofed" in terms of specifications so the 1080p screen and fast processor of the HTC One ticked those boxes for me.

    Re: The HTC One

Does anyone know what the real world battery usage is like on the HTC One?

My contract has been up for a couple of months and I'm looking to replace my HTC desire so I'm on the lookout for a new phone. This new HTC looks really nice. I'm not too concerned about SD card removal because it won't affect me - 32Gb is plenty, but not being able to swap batteries is annoying unless battery performance is good.

    Re: The HTC One

It's actually very good so far - much better than some "so called" reviews have stated (they've generally had less than a week with the HTC One and their opinion is skewed). I've been getting an easy day out of it and as you can imagine, I've been fiddling A LOT as I would with any new gadget. There's a Power Saving mode that seems to make a good impact on battery life and I've been enabling it when I'm in long solid periods of work so there's little unnecessary syncing going on in the background.

It's a fantastic phone in everything I've set to it so far - There's a couple of games that haven't been compatible even though Google Play doesn't suggest otherwise such as Horn, but there's loads of games that work really well on it. Real Racing 3 looks amazing in 1080p!

As Streetster says, I wouldn't hold your breath on the 64GB version soon, It's supposed to be coming only available as sim-only "at some point" but probably not until later in the year.

There isn't unfortunately - seems a bit odd, as they've also removed the default android Email widget.

Personally, other than BlinkFeed I am happy with Sense 5, much better than previous versions of Sense.

    Re: The HTC One

Something is not right with 5Ghz WI-Fi at least with my Vodafone supplied HTC One.

My Asus RT-AC66U router arrived today and I have got it all set up correct I think. Have done comparitive speed tests with the HTC One and my Nexus 4

    Results

    Nexus 4
    Link speed = 72Mbps
    Max Down = 54Mbps
    Max Up = 17Mbps

    HTC One
    Link Speed = 135Mbps
    Max Down = 30Mbps
    Max Up = 17Mbps

    On 2.4Ghz (802.11g/n) I get
    Nexus 4
    Link speed = 65Mbps
    Max Down = 43Mbps
    Mx Up = 13Mbps

    HTC One
    Link Speed = 72Mbps
    Max Down = 45Mbps
    Max Up = 12Mbps
Hmmm that doesn't look good to me. :crying:

Bunji what speeds are you getting on 5G wi-fi if you're able to test??

I'll also try the results again with my older Draytek router and see if that changes anything.
