    Android Device Manager

Android will soon be getting built-in functionality to remotely track/erase devices. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/...rvice-finally/

Makes for a good alternative to many of the current commercial offerings IMO, many of them are unnecessarily bloated, have annoying bugs like keeping GPS active, or rely on you trusting some random company's website with complete control over your phone.

I currently use Lookout for this but of course, a first party solution is always nicer.

It's been a long time coming though.

    Re: Android Device Manager

It's being rolled out slowly and has now shown up in my device managers, but I don't think the actual web page to control it has been released yet.

    Re: Android Device Manager

    Works for my devices/account.

Interesting thing though, my work phone if Vodafone, we have next to no signal up here so I have a femto-cell signal box. Google thinks my work phone is in North Wales, near Chester

(Actually in the North East of Scotland)

    Re: Android Device Manager

One explanation for that would be if Google builds up its cell tower database, at least for unknown cells, by a sort of reverse-triangulation process using GPS and that 'anonymous location data'? Maybe another femtocell with the same CID was near Chester?

Do you get a similar location if you fire up Maps without GPS enabled?
