    Question Best gamers phone

Iv'e had by htc Sensation XL for a while now and it's a bit knackered so I'm wanting something new. However I'm a compulsive gamer so it's got to be up-to-scratch with good speed and graphics.

and before anyone suggests a tablet, have one, need a new phone as it will function for work as well. Cant carry a tablet about all day in my pockets.

    Suggestions and justifications please

    Re: Best gamers phone

Going to have to be boring and suggest the Samsung Galaxy S4 I'm afraid, but for a few reasons,
    1. It is quick
    2. Being one of the most widely purchased phones, it is high on the list for compatibility checks by developers
    3. Coming from the Sensation XL, I assume you already have a catalogue of Android games/apps and migrating would be easier
    4. Lots of custom ROMs kicking about if you feel compelled to try and milk the platform harder
    5. I personally enjoy replaceable batteries and microSD cards

The HTC One, LG G2 and Xperia Z are other phones that do all the above but miss point 5. IFA is around the corner so it may be worth waiting. I'm holding out for the Note 3 in case it is a good upgrade from my current Gen 1 Note.

Has the note 3 been announced yet? Based on owning a note 2, that or the 3 would be great.

Any suggestions on good games? Just started playing a proper RTS called ProjectY

I would suggest whatever you can get a decent deal on. It will be out of date in 6 months after all, and who knows what will be needed to run Android 5.

    Re: Best gamers phone

Note 3 is due to be announced at IFA which is later this week. And indeed rumours point to another monster phone with it being the first phone to the market with 3GB of RAM. Expect a flood of new devices in the week to come.

Games... Bounty Hunter: Black Dawn is quite a convincing Borderlands like game on the Android platform. Global Outbreak is another game I really enjoyed, no idea how many hours I sank into that game...

The Room is a game which got updated recently with an additonal level. I absoloutely loved this game and its going on sale now IIRC.

Bloons TD5. Amazingly well optimised. Long time PC users will know how murderous flash animations with high object counts are, but they managed to optimise it such that even late levels with hundreds if not thousands of balloons on screen didn't lag out my tablet. Also spent a lot of time with this game on flights.

The Quell series. A nice sountrack and relaxed gameplay make this a great bedtime play.

OneX/S4 (or S3 if you can still pick them up) will all be fine if you're not fussed about upgrading, if you just want a phone and are going to run Giffgaff/ three payg sims etc then a Nexus 4 is really hard to beat pricewise if you don't mind the 4" screen

My One-X gets *really* hot if you try and game on it, not sure how typical this is compared to other makes.

    Re: Best gamers phone

The Sony experia range is built for gaming and generally does a good job. Sony even has their own PlayStation emulator for some phones. I've spent a good few hours with an experia z but don't own one myself.
I mean I can put an emulator on my s2 but it would overheat and flatten the battery in minutes, but it isn't made for that kind of gaming. My recommendation is the sony experia z.

    Re: Best gamers phone

I've got the Note 2 and it is performs well enough. The biggest plus is the screen size... no squinting or holding it close to my face just to read a pop up dialogue box! Not to mention the massive (for a phone) RAM.

Note 3 should be out by xmas too, and rumours are saying it will be a beast.

    Re: Best gamers phone

The iPhone 5s and the Note 3 are neck and neck when it comes to colour accuracy and gaming performance.

The Snapdragon 800 is a crazy powerful CPU - as is the A7 despite it only being a dual core.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/7455/h...iew-its-huge/4

It depends on the size of the phone you want. The Nexus 5 is therefore also going to be amazing, and it comes with stock KitKat which sees a massive improvement in performance and aids battery life.

I would give the Z1 a mention, but with the customer care I've received from Sony I would advise people against them - so don't get a Sony device because they'll call you a lier and won't fix your phone even though it's in Warranty (bought my Z on day one launch for 530 GBP + 100GBP for the MDR-1R).
