Ok, need help. Im going to be buying an Ex-contract Nec E606. I was just wondering...... is this the same deal with the Nokia 7600? Where as it can be unlocked onto a 2G network? Or will it be strictly 3G?
Any help appreciated, Thanks.

nope 3g only mate
AFAIK the 7600 is the ONLY 3 phone that works on 2/2.5G bands too
this is why 3 subsidise costs of phones e.g. the e313, theres no way youd get a phone like that on normal PAYG 2g as its got video, 2 cameras, color, etc for 29.99, on normal PAYG would be about 100, just cheaper to get u to join on the 3 network
thats where the 7600 backfired ;) seems 3 are doing it on all their phones now, making them stupidly cheap to get a good userbase, then it failed, as the 7600 can be unlocked and used on normal networks, thus ppl get em cheap, sell em on and make a profit, and 3 make a loss
:)
Surely the NEC E606 drops to 2/2.5G when the 3G network isn't available (i.e. most of the time :p)? Ergo, it should be able to run on any 2/2.5G network, theoretically?
actually, you could be right there, cos the 3 signal is etter sh*te
probably is, not sure how and if its possible to unlock to 2g even tho it would technical work
edit : actually i think its possible to unlock them but only temperarily
POW ! only temp but it might work, u have to it everytime you insert a sim, or turn it on, not sure what, but this is the code for E606 - if i was you, use 000000000 as xxxxxxxx so u dont forget :)
NEC Temporary Unlock:
Put a 2G (GSM-SIM) Simcard and turn ON the phone.
#4960*xxxxxxxx#
*4960*xxxxxxxx*xxxxxxxx#
Turn OFF and ON again.
xxxxxxxx = any numbers
Remember the xxxxxxxx you used.
You will need to use same code in the furure.
Attention:
- This unlock method ONLY works with one Simcard. If you change to another Simcard, you will have to unlock again!
- This method depends on the firmware version. If didn't work only a cable soluction can help you.
Nice find. :)
