    NEC e616

These are pretty cheap at most places on 3pay etc, but are they actually any good? Any good hacks that can be done to them etc, or are they pretty standard nothing-to-shout-about affairs?

The phones themselves seem good enough, but the limitations appear to be that:

    a) you can't easily unlock them

    b) you're stuck with shelling out a minimum of £15 a month on 3pay

The battery life is also pretty terrible.

yeah, all the 3g phones are huge compared to normal 2/2.5G phones, mainly because they need a bigger battery to power the large screens etc
I think the 3G network means that it uses a lot more power to transmit/recieve too.

but still. not too bad for £45 all in

under 40 inc £15 of credit on Amazon at the moment - not a bad deal for quite a nice phone.

How could I go about unlocking one of these myself?
On 3Pay, does your credit disappear every 30 days if u dont use it? :s

your a lot better off on contact to be fair

its 4.99 a month most palces, with a free phone, thats 60 quid a year, free phone, etc

now PAYG, minimum 15 quid a month, thats 120 a year, TWICE what youll be paying for the contract varient

and whats the difference? well the contracts gives u looooooads more free minutes ! gotta be the one to go for

    seriously these phones are rubbish

huge, very cheap feel to them, shockingly back UI and software

they wont fit in the average pocket... and are notoriously unreliable

best 3 fones are the nokia 7600 or the LG one, but avoid the nec one like the plague...
