Galaxy S3 Lock Screen

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the lock screen (without having to do all the reformatting shenanigans) so that you can swipe it first and then have your security pin? I liked being able to have quick access to text messages/missed calls from the lock screen but since updating the software I seem to have lost the option and not sure how to get it back

disable stock lock screen and install a third party app possibly ?

I used something similar on my old HTC Desire HD before upgrading.

You might need to enable lock screen widgets in the security options. I know thats what I need to do on my Nexus 5 to get stuff like that working....
