    Dual Sim Android Phone

Does anyone here have experience with dual sim android phones (or any mobile phones actually)?

I'm considering getting one so I can keep my work calls and personal calls separate without having to carry two phones around with me.

Can I effectively switch one sim off when/if required?

I'm guessing when it comes to making a call, you have to make some sort of selection as to which sim you will be calling through?

Cheers for any info people can give

    Re: Dual Sim Android Phone

I'll bump this thread, because I'm interested too.

Although it would mean buying a handset out right rather than getting it on contract (never seen a dual sim handset on contact). Would still be tempted though.

    Re: Dual Sim Android Phone

Last dual sim phone I used you had to select the sim to use on boot, to change it you had to reboot.

A quick Google says newer phones can run both

    Re: Dual Sim Android Phone

I own an iOcean X7 Youth, it's a dual SIM design (one standard, one micro). However, that does mean it's MediaTek. Which means the custom ROMs aren't so custom - so choose your vendor well.

Both SIMs are active all the time, however only one can maintain a 3G signal and changing this to the other SIM requires around 10 seconds and then you have to re-enter the PINs for both SIM cards.

You can turn either or both SIMs on/off from the SIM management settings - which is the first listing in the settings menu.

When making a call you can set it so it always asks you or you can set a default SIM for texts/calls. Switching SIMs for calls/texts is quite easy as you can do it through the notification pull-down when in the messaging/calling app.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

It's the dual SIM Sony P1 Ultra, due out next month, that caught my eye.

There are two main types of dual SIM phones that are: dual SIM standby / dual SIM active. With dual standby devices you can call from both SIM cards, choosing at you will, but when receiving a call only one SIM will work and if somebody call at that moment to the other number it will respond as not available. On the other hand, with dual SIM active phones you can make and respond calls with both SIM cards at the same time and you'll never miss a call. The thing is that dual SIM active phones are often a bit more expensive than dual SIM active devices.

You're pretty right about: "so choose your vendor well," because nowadays there are a lot of Chinese manufacturers and some of them don't supply the complete detail of phones' specs. It'll be advisable to find dual SIM models of well-known manufacturer and reduce the risk of get a piece of junk.

The latest dual SIM android smartphones developed by Sony are: Xperia T2 Ultra dual, Xperia E1 dual, Xperia M2 dual. By the way, these models have notorious improvements in contrast with earlier Sony's dual SIM models, because the brand is trying to gain some track in the market again.

    Re: Dual Sim Android Phone

Is two phones an entirely unacceptable solution?

I kniw it seems a pain, but I bought a very cheap, light 2nd phone for exactly that purpose. It was a £5 jobbie, inc £1 of call credit. Very basic (not at all smart), but .... receives calls okay, and makes occasional calls.

In fact, when my main phone packed up, and because I no longer needed two, I kept the cheapo. If I ever replace the decent phone, this will be the one I give out when I need to give a number to someone I have to give a number to, but don't want to be pestered by in my down time.

Anyway, it's tiny, weighs next to nothing (edit, a whole 67g), has cost me £15-ish in toral, including buying the phone, over some 7 years (I.e. £2/year-ish) and .... means I have a "work" phone, which I physically turn off outside "work" hours.

Two phones, for me, isn't actually that bad an option. Just sayin'.

    Re: Dual Sim Android Phone

I have two or three and all times.

I don't trust Android entirely to keep an honest signal on one sim either, let alone two!

I've often (weekly) found that the signal bar IMPLIES I have 5 bars but I've had no calls or text and when I reboot I get a proper signal and all the calls and text flood in.

I had it on the HTC and now i have it on a Sony,

Two phones is also easier mentally for turning work OFF at last when you need to be off work properly.

    I'm a multi phone man

    Re: Dual Sim Android Phone

    Hi,

Everything depends on personal preferences... Personally, I found very uncomfortable walking with two phones in my pocket, there's not enough space in it, but who knows... Also, I easily lose my phones so it's better to for me to remember that I just have to carry one phone.

Anyhow, I guess dual SIM devices are not for everyone!

OK, so a bit of a necro.. but been working in Dublin during the week so has little time to for anything but work and sleep (ok... and drink Guinness)...

Should be getting an N7502 (Samsung Note3 Neo Duos) on Tuesday.
    http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gala..._duos-6015.php

Tried to buy one from Simply Electronics, but it took them sooooo long to process the order that they went out of stock. They're based in Hong Kong and I'm convinced they have blocks of English text they paste into support ticket responses - let's just say I won't be buying from them again.

Attempt number 2 has been through Offerbank. Some issues with ordering - looks like their secure payment centre only works when you are in country. At least I could email someone with them. Stock shipped from Dubai.

    Re: Dual Sim Android Phone

I'm using a cheapo Haier W718+ and it does the job fine . It's running Android 4.2.2 and has a 1.3GHz dual core cpu with Mali-400 graphics. The screen is scratch resistant and it's supposed to be waterproof too (not bothered testing that feature). I've dropped it many times and it still looks ok and works fine. The screen is a bit crap when it comes to viewing angles (it's not IPS) and the camera is not that great, but I don't really care as it's mainly used as a phone anyway .
