nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
As the title, my N4 is quite happy on 4.3.2 but it seems to be forcing me to update to 4.4, and next time i plug it in to charge it will complete this.
I heard bad things about it screwing wifi speed and battery life so never installed it, but now it sounds like i don't have a choice.
Am i worrying over nothing, or should I find a way to get everything off it and do a factory reset while I still can?
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
ps and is there a way to backup+reinstall apps without rooting the phone?
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
I have friends who have nexus 4 s' and have upgraded to 4.4 no problem. None reported any problems regarding of Wifi speed and battery life so I guess it's ok. I mean I own a Nexus 5 with 4.4 and haven't received any problems. :)
Regarding backups: https://support.google.com/nexus/ans...19582?hl=en-GB this page should say it.
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
I would say yes to kk. My Note 3 was updated yonks back and nothing bad has came from it. All positive
Biggest pro is that is has been designed to run on lower spec devices so runs really good on high spec devices. I gained more free ram as well.
I say go for it.
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
My N4 was fine on KK probably better than on JB so I'd say do it. As for complete back up without root sorry but I don't know of anything that can do that hence the 1st thing I do with any new phone is to root it and stick stick Titanium Backup on it.

but doesn't rooting the phone make it more vulnerable?
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
well I charged the phone and it hasn't installed, possibly because I blocked a play update on app ops (no idea if it was the right one or not) - and apparently if I go to 4.4 I lose app ops altogether. :(
I've spent a bit scouring you tube. Some benchmarks drop on 4.4 compared to 4.3, and 4.2 did best of all! So perhaps not an all-out improvement.
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
More vulnerable to what? Malware??? No verified instances of malware yet recorded on UK network smartphones & to be honest at the present time you'd pretty much have to be an idiot to get malware on your phone at the moment.
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
upgrade to kitkat. they have just found a flaw in the credentials manager or something that if exploited can cause it to leak credentials etc. its funny because apparently the bit of code thats faulty actually says why its faulty and that it was a quick and dirty fix. KIT KAT ALL THE WAY!
Re: nexus 4 - should i update to kitkat or stay on jellybean
I would definitely upgrade, my colleague who has an N4 (and I installed the updates for her!) noticed a small performance increase and her battery lasted a bit longer too. Go for it!
Edit: Digressing slightly, but according to Android Police the N4 will be getting an upgrade to Android L - which offers around 36% better battery life compared to KitKat - so make sure you upgrade then, too.

Definitely upgrade. My experience improved greatly
