Upgrade Time - What to do??
Hey Guys,
Well its been almost two years since I got my iPhone 5 and with upgrade time looming (due on the 8th) its time to make that decision again on what's going to be my next device for the coming two years. I've not really been following mobile tech for some time now so I'm a little lost as to what the big innovations are for the last few years or who the "big players" are when it comes to high-end smart phones these days. Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is what smart phone would you guys get to replace my old iPhone 5??
Thanks,
Rookie

Start by moving from a contract where you party over the odds for your phone and the service to a SIM only deal and then you will be free to change your phone as often as you like. You should be able to find out what your average usage is from your current provider and then you can compare services across different networks for SIM only deals that deliver a package that meets your needs. I used to pay £35 a month for a contract with my iPhone I now pay £22.50 a month and that covers not only my phone but my wife's and mothers phones too.
As for phones, I'm on my second Windows Phone, my first is ruining WP8 and this one is running WP8.1, I would recommend WP8.1 which is what's running on my Lumia 930. Should i get bored with the phone I know I'll get a good price for it on eBay and can pick up another phone as soon as I've sold this one, just make sure you quote a long enough dispatch time to allow a new phone to be bought before sending your old phone off.

One question to ask is do you like the size of the iPhone?
I love the size of the iPhone but hate Apple as a company and vote with my wallet so will never give them any of my money. Unfortunately I have only one choice of phone, at the moment, in the size category of iPhones with similar performance. That is the Sony Z1 Compact which I am seriously considering as a purchase in September/October.
As for Android, the switch isn't as daunting as it may sound. I would imagine the switch to Windows Phone would be similar as would a switch to Blackberry.
My favourite operating system is Blackberry because it compartmentalizes things in a way I like but they don't offer the features I would like at the moment which is why my choice is Android, for now.
If you want a bigger screened phone I can't help. Like you I am not familiar with them and actually dislike using large phones because I like to use a phone with one hand, with my thumb able to get to all parts of the screen; unfortunately I have smaller than average hands and as such 4.5" is the limit for phone size when I am looking for a phone.
