HTC One (M7) 4.4.2 is driving me nuts!

Couple of things and I just cannot figure out for the life of me:

    1) New email or any other notification comes in - tiniest of red LEDs flashes in the corner on my HTC but screen won't wake up to tell me that something actually happened. Phone is docked on my desk at work so I cannot be pressing the top button each time I want to check what's going on. Phone is set to silent profile. All I want my phone to do it to wake the screen up and show the notification like this:

Now, the notifications by default seem to be there but are limited to Phone, Voice mail, text messages, email and calendar. I want to add other apps like What'sApp, Notify my Android etc. Screen wake is not working or I don't know where to find it...

    2) How do add new items to default lock screen? I stress the word default - I can swipe the the right and hit the + button to add widgets there which seems totally useless. If I do that I might as well unlock the phone all together. My home screen looks like this:

and there is plenty of space above the time and weather thing for other more useful widgets. Actually you can't remove the default widget as well and I'd like to do that. Any ideas?

Hey spoon_ on your second question since its Android and shouldn't be too different under lock screen options in settings you might have options for turning shortcuts off (the phone etc icons down bottom) or adding new options i have a Samsung Galaxy S3 running 4.3

Also think of the lock screen as a home screen now hold finger over the weather widget and you should be able move / remove it if not try what i said before under mine i can have live news feed ticker and can turn off the shortcuts to apps but for me i no longer can really have widgets on lock screen as i use a pattern lock as security.

On your first question you should get notified when something comes in but generally the led will flash or whatever device has on it by default "wake on notify" tends not to happen as if you walk along get message and well pockets + phones tend to unlock phone and do all funny things.

I've had people pocket unlock call me every so often
