10" tablet budget £250 max
Hi sister is looking for a couple of tablets for her kids for Xmas general usage( web films simple games) and thought I would post on here for any recommendations you have, main thing she is asking is that they don't lag.
Ages are 16 &14 and only used in the house they have S3 phones at the moment, just throwing this in if it makes any difference
Thanks
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
Well they are not 10" but the texco Hudle is superb value for money. They have very very slight lag on home screen swipe with the default loader, but if you install a different one (like Nova, which is what im using) then it completely goes away.
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
For kids, defintiely the Hudl2 as it has excellent built in parental controls. It's also a decent tablet in it's own right with HDMI (link to the TV) and MicroSD (storage expandability)
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
Can I ask as you both have recommended it what would their friends think if they saw it, cool or looks naff ?
Thanks
Update told her about the hudl 2 and was told she was looking at something like a galaxy tab 4 10"
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
I think the Hudl looks great, but I guess Tesco as a brand doesn't really scream, 'cool'. If what they want is 'cool' then there isn't much point in looking at anything that isn't Apple or Samsung.
Perhaps the new Google Nexus tablets are worth considering?
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
Thanks, I think it's the size that's puting her of a bit, 8" instead of 10"
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
I originally had a 7", which was a bit too small, I moved to 10", which I personally found to be a bit unwieldy. I have now dropped down to the 8-9" format and its spot on.
This is just my personal experience and i tend to do a lot of travelling around though, I can see why the extra size would be more suitable if it was just to be used in the home and i suspect the Samsung models are considerably lighter and slimmer than the 10" i have.
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
Just make sure that the thing is getting an upgrade to Android Lollipop. The new ART binary system made my low end Moto G phone way smoother.
Sadly the only device that would tick all my boxes atm (decent hardware, 64 bit, Lollipop) is the Nexus 9, and that is £320 so outside the budget here. I expect in a month or two the stores will be awash with 64 bit lollipop designs, and any 32 bit KitKat device will be old news. Hudl 2 has 64 bit capable hardware, but no idea if they will do a 64 bit lollipop for it.

+1 I've got a Nook HD+ (With CyanogenMod on it). 9" full HD and runs everything I throw at it fairly well. Size is perfect for me too, device is solid and much lighter than my Nexus 10.
Can be picked up cheap and official cases etc can be had for a fiver each off the official website (not sure if that deal is still on, seemed like a clearance offer).

Very personal thing, though, and only trying them will tell you. For me, 10"-ish is perfect for a tablet.
RobTi, one thing worth considering is what John Lewis are doing in-store. And I do mean in-store, not on the website. Why? If you strike lucky, you can benefit from "local undersells". This is where JL cut prices due to LOCAL competition, but as it's not national, it's only reflected in-store, not nationally or on the web. At a time when my 10.1" Samsung was close to £300 on the web, it was on local undersell, in-branch, at £199. Samsung were doing a £50 mail-in rebate, bringing effective price down to £149. And in my case, being VAT-registered and a business purchase, I got the VAT back too. One very cheap Samsung tablet. :D
But even without VAT refunds or mail-in rebates, you can pick up real bargains on undersells. You just have to be either patient or lucky.

The iPad mini 2 (last year's model) can now be had for £239.00
It's a beautiful device so if you don't mind Apple products that's also an option.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) can be had refurbished with 12 month warranty from Argos Ebay store for £299 - that's a decent option for the extra money.

Indeed and i did point out that this was just my experience. Everyone is different but it seems as though the 8-9" form factor is a fairly common one for people to say its, 'just right'

Absolutely, it's personal. There's no right or wrong, just right or wrong for the individual.

How do you think getting a new Lenovo Yogo, it meets your budget and it's 10'
Re: 10" tablet budget £250 max
I'm using lenovo laptop now, so I think it's a great brand to recommend http://pcgamerhome.com/new-lenovo-co...yoga-to-power/

A smaller 8 inch tablet has to be 4:3 for me, like the iPad mini. You can get the retina display one (2 gen iPad mini) for 230 in some places. Really good value if you don't need the extra storage.
