As already pointed out, for value for money, the 3 contracts cannot be beaten. I mean many places are doing 12 months line rental for half price. So I have 70 cross network minutes, 150 texts for £20 per month, show me another I can get that deal on?

i have a 3 contract mobile (7600) and works out pretty cheap 500 mins and 100 texts damn cheap!

but what can get annoying is when the signals change over, however, even on lowest bar, 3g the sound quality is still superb so i cannot complain!

i get good coverage so far, i can't complain!

    no. no no no

o2 has ok coverage i will grant you, but the 3 coverage is dire. the 80% figure quoted is 80% of densely populated areas. Small towns/villages and rural areas are not covered in this 80% figure. Its dire...the worst thing is that most of the country has intermittent coverage, and what the phones do is automatically switch from 3 to 02 and 02 to 3 depending on what signal it can find - it always swaps to 3 if it can. When it swaps it drops any call that your currently on. This results in lots of broken calls - the famous '3 beeps'. You are correct that they have the best 3G coverage - but be fair, they have had a head start on orange/vodafone, they will catch up in the end

    hmm....

Dunno how good this idea is - but with the 3 7600's, they would always try to use 3g, untill factory reset.

Ok, most people think its a horrible phone, because of how it looks, and in some ways id agree, but apart from that, its great, for the £45 I payed for it!

Now, if the other 3 phones can be factory reset, or what ever to give the 2g only option, then your left with 3 taffifs, yet o2 network coverage, and no switching between, thats probably best, maybe?

    (I use o2 PAYG w. 300 free texts/month, of which I only use about 100...)

    right...

i had the opportunity to speak to 3's customer 'service' about four time in trying to get on a contract, and... ended up back with Orange!

i spoke to 3's call centre in Bombay and it was enough to put me off for life - they were no use at all, and didn't understand anything!

i even went to 2 local phone stores, both of which said 'stay with orange'...

    so i did

The thing to do (although it sounds like it's a bit late for you) is to phone up your current operator and threaten to leave. Then wait until they offer you some silly prices to get you to stay.

Having said that, I have a 7600 on 3 and apart from an irritating echo of my voice on all my conversations, I'm very happy with it, I almost never have network issues albeit that I've yet to venture far from London with it. The one person in India I spoke to spoke perfect English and dealt with my attempt to port my number perfectly- in fact it was Vodafone who'd scuppered the operation by sending me a code for a number I'd stopped using three years ago.
