Really weird mobile data issue
I'm having a really weird issue with my old Galaxy Nexus and was hoping some people here might have some idea of what's going on. Basically my data connection cuts out when I'm outside of Oxford (where I live). Recently I've been taking the train from Oxford -> Swindon a few times and my data always cuts out about halfway between Didcot and Swindon. It miraculously starts working again at the same point on the return journey but I have extremely intermittent data while I'm away (less than 1% of the time, far too bad to be explained by signal strength and only for a few seconds at a time usually). I can still send/receive texts during this time. This problem seems to be everywhere else I go recently, Swindon, Bristol, Southampton, Belfast & Derry in NI even.
I'm on a very old T-mobile (so now EE) payg SIM and I use the 6monthweb deal for data along with free internet/texts the month after I top up. I always have some sort of data allowance on my phone and check this pretty regularly due to the issues.
I think the best test I can do would be to try the SIM in another phone and see if the issue persists but I don't have one immediately to hand and it's awkward to test given that it only seems to happen when I'm away from home. I'm sure I'll get the chance to try the SIM in someone else's phone sooner or later but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas in the meantime. I'd like to squeeze a little more life out of this phone if I can, so I'd be annoyed if I bought a new phone and then found that the handset wasn't the issue... :help:
Re: Really weird mobile data issue
In settings > mobile network> network operators - make sure your set to auto.
Re: Really weird mobile data issue
Back when EE was new I had to enable roaming to get my T-mobile phone/sim to use the Orange network. It could be worth checking your roaming settings? Just remember to switch roaming off again if you go abroad!
Re: Really weird mobile data issue
Thanks for the help, doesn't seem to have fixed the problem though. I was in Winchester this weekend and the data cut out just south of Basingstoke on the train (still a few bars of signal, just no data) and dutifully returned at the same point on the return journey. I made sure to switch roaming on beforehand and the network operators was set to auto (always has been I think).
This is really annoying me, mainly because I just can't work out what's going on. I need to get my hands on a spare phone to test if it's definitely the handset...
Re: Really weird mobile data issue
I wonder if this could be an APN settings issue. Might be worth googling what your phone should have and checking.
