Running apps from external memory card performance question.
Hello,
I've been looking into an Android/Windows dual boot tablet and have noticed that some of the better ones only have 32GB of internal storage in them, which is then made even smaller when split between the 2 OSesses.
There are some that have external memory card slots but could anyone please tell me if there would be a very noticeable performance hit when running apps from a MicroSD card as opposed to the tablet internal eMMC storage?
Cheers.
Re: Running apps from external memory card performance question.
In the end I got impatient so had to take the gamble of ordering a 64GB version direct from China, UK suppliers only had the 32GB one.
Fingers crossed.
Re: Running apps from external memory card performance question.
It would depend on the app really; it won't matter for some while others may run slower. However some apps won't allow you to move them to external storage at all.
BTW it is a legit card you're getting, right? An awful lot of suspiciously cheap cards, often advertised as 'upgraded' have a fake capacity and are very likely to corrupt data.

Hi watercooled,
Thanks for the reply.
It was actually the Tablet I ordered from China, hence my nervousness. :undecided
Would have preferred to pay a bit extra and buy one from a UK seller but I couldn’t find one that sold the larger 64GB+ eMMC internal storage model.
I could have gotten the 32GB version here but the dual OS setup partitions the drive in two and only allows exclusive access for the each OS so in reality it’s a much less than 16GB useable device.
Hopefully even with just the slightly bigger 64GB capacity I can fit all my apps on the faster internal eMMC storage and just put media files and the like on an external mem card.
Thanks for the warning on the dodgy memory cards though.
Cheers.
Re: Running apps from external memory card performance question.
I've moved many apps to the sd card in my Samsung TAB S tablet and notice zero difference. With the advent of Android Lollipop, this has become even easier.
