    Help with tablet type machine

Hi my father (85) is in hospital and bored and it's too expensive to use the hospitals TV for long term, so looking for a tablet type machine to watch movies on and if possible some type of TV

Main thing is it must be simple to use, so any help ?

    Thanks

Can he get WiFi free in hospital. If so get any cheap android device and use Netflix on it. BBC iPlayer and any other terrestrial on demand service would work too.

What's the budget for a tablet?

Sorry don't have a budget yet say £100-£150 it would all depend on what he ended up with if I had to go more, I thought a 10-12" screen would be needed to watch anything and the some sort of storage to be plugged in for films, will find out about the wifi and if not would a chrome book play movies without internet

Re: Help with tablet type machine

That's on the large size for a tablet (the iPad is just under the 10" mark, at 9.7). Streaming will mean either wifi or a good high-use mobile data plan of some sort, which would be tricky: if the hospital TV is too expensive (how much is it?) I suspect the cost of heavy 3g usage will also be a problem. You've just missed the cutoff for EE's 200 Gb summer offer, too, I think - you had to apply for the SIM by midnight tonight, according to the ad I found earlier.

In the absence of in-hospital access (3g/wifi) remember iPlayer lets you download for watching later, so you could get him a tablet with decent storage (or a big SD card) and fill the tablet up for him either at home or in a nearby coffee shop wifi, which might be the cheapest route overall.
