temp vid file repair

samsung phone gs3 lost power now the vid is a temp file and will not play

any way to fix it? 1.10 gb

Will it play in VLC? It seems to handle mangled files better than a lot of other players.

VLC can't recognize the input's format:
The format of 'file:///C:/Users/paul/Videos/temp_video%20mp4.mp4' cannot be detected. Have a look at the log for details.

If you're lucky it could just be the container that's damaged and the video might be largely intact. Something like AVI Demux might be able to extract the raw audio/video streams, but considering VLC didn't manage to play it back it might not work either.

Do you have the log file from VLC?

Edit: Oh and I'd recommend keeping a couple of copies of the original file if it's important, as some recovery methods might alter the original file. Also, if it's on an SD card it would be advisable to take it out of the phone and set it aside as it might be useful to have an untouched card for recovery, depending on how exactly it's been corrupted.

were do i find the vlc log ? also got avidemux and again will not open the file.

I'd give VirtualDub a go, that can sometimes rebuild the missing data but that's generally only good for AVIs. Since VLC and AVIDemux haven't worked it's not looking great.

I presume the GS3 stores as MP4 natively? Are there any other temporary files aside from the 1.1 Gb one?

I've found a couple of threads related to recovering videos like this however they seem to be recommending paid solutions and they're not cheap, so it depends on what the video is worth.

I think some of them will allow a trial where it recovers only half of the video or with a watermark for example, just to check it works before buying.

If the video isn't private at all you could upload it and see if anyone has any luck recovering it, but of course I understand wanting to do it yourself if it's of people or whatever.

I'm really not too experienced with this, I've just posted a couple of simple things to try but someone else might drop by with a better/free way to do it. Good luck.
