10" Android tablet options - Replacement for Nexus 10

My Nexus 10 is starting to show its age (a couple of decent cracks in the casing + a dicey battery) I'm way out of touch with tablets so I wondered if anyone had any reccomendations?

Apple is a no go, and it needs to be 10" ish. Front ffacing speakers preferably and a great screen. Currently the Z4 tablet appears to be ticking the boxes, but with sony's rep for aftermarket support I'd be surprised if it gets marshmallow.

I'm kind of feeling a surface 3, but to be honest the only benefit I'd get is being able to play factorio on the move. The rest of the time its essentially a video player.

You said Nexus, so I'm assuming that you want to stay with 'droid rather than switching to Surface3. Personally, I'd go along to PC World etc and just try a few.

At the moment, I've got Asus Transformer, Samsung Note 10.1 (2013) and Lenovo Yoga 2 (8"). Of those, it's the Yoga 2 that gets most use, although the Note 10.1 is still hanging in there.

Actually, if I was going to give a recommendation (other than the usual "buy a Galaxy Tab" that everyone else does) then I'd suggest taking a look at the Lenovo's, specifically the Yoga 2 10". If you're an Intel fan then that box is ticked, they're not expensive (same price as a Galaxy Tab 4, but the Lenovo has a higher res screen). They also have that strange stand arrangement which makes them pretty convenient for watching video's or vodcasts on. My eldest kid (teenager) got one for last Christmas and it's still going strong, and she upgraded to Lollipop 2-3 months ago.

Downside is that the battery bulge can be off-putting (but I find it useful as a handle on my Yoga2) and the default launcher is ... well ... lousy. Then again, a couple of seconds on the Play store to download Google Launcher or Nova, etc can fix that.

Quite like the Asus gear too - but unfortunately the price of that seems to have skyrocketed.

Samsung I'm not happy with - both the Note tablets in the house have slowed to a crawl after numerous Samsung "updates". In my case I'm seriously thinking about trying a 3rd party ROM because my Note 10.1 was pretty snappy when I first bought it.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Have you looked at the new Google Pixel C?
