OnePlus 2, moving from Nexus 5. Thoughts?

HI all, looks like i'm in the market for a new phone.
My son dropped my Nexus 5 in the toilet this morning, and the screen is all flickery....

So unless a high st shop can work some magic, i plan to order a new phone this evening.

The Nexus 5 was an ideal phone for me, powerful, simple, great value.
I want something similar.

Looking around, am thinking of either the new 5x, or else the OnePlus 2.

I know that the OxygenOS is based on Android, but would all my contacts etc get pulled through from google? I know if i just bought a new Nexus phone, it would essentially all just 'be there'.

Anything else i should be considering?
I'm not happy to pay close to £400 for the nexus, and under £300 for a 64GB OnePlus 2 does seem very appealing.

One plus 2 is a nice phone. Defo comparable to your nexus 5 which is a damn good phone. Have you considered a moto x play. Another good phone with excellent battery life.

When on a new device. All your settings/contacts should sync fine. When you setup a new device, Google let's you choose to transfer from old device or setup as a new one. It even remembers your wallpaper. Unless you backed up your photos or use Google photos, you might have lost them.

In the meantime, stick your nexus 5 in a bag of rice for several days . It might just save it.

Funnily enough, the phone returned to working condition (with clearly disturbed LCD display) within about 2 hours.
After a further 48 hours, the screen appears to be nearly back to 100%...

Very odd.
Not complaining though.

Anandtech slammed the OnePlus 2 in their recent review, but looks like they were encountering an obvious bug to do with core management from little to big cores. I don't know how prevalent that bug is in the wild. But if your Nexus has survived then all credit to it!

If you consider the Nexus 5 just within your size limit as I do, you may find anything bigger very cumbersome in comparison. I wasn't willing to compromise on pocketability going bigger, and I also find holding the 5.5" One Plus One too awkward in the hand.

As such you're severely restricted in your options, but there are a few worth consideration:

LG Nexus 5X

If the Nexus 5X was just a tad smaller I'd say it's a no brainer coming from the Nexus 5 you love (as do I). Much improved camera, finger print sensor for NFC payments.

I went with the OnePlus X, and in all honesty, while it's a nice looking phone I still prefer the Nexus 5 in the hand - it's just nicer to use. As such I think the 5X might have been a better choice, and I coulddefinitely see me using the finger print scanner for payments (which the OnePlus X lacks).

I'm not sure the oneplus supports all of our 4g bands, 02 is the frequency thats usally dropped.

Three different frequency bands are used for 4G LTE in the UK. There's the 800MHz band, the 1800MHz / 1.8GHz band and the 2600MHz / 2.6GHz band.

There's build quality and there's perceived build quality. The former I expect would be identical, but the latter is very much higher for the OPX because that's the selling point of the phone.

Whatever phone you buy other than a nexus will be a brick within 6-12 months. Google support their own products, most other companies dont.

Unless of course you want to install a 3rd party rom. But, as we all know, there are risks associated with that.
