    MS surface 4 disapointments

Hi. i am very disappointed with this machine.

i ordered and received a Surface pro 4 with i7 512gb, 16gb RAM last year December in the UK and about two weeks ago the device stopped charging and it couldnt even recognise the charger and as a result, the battery died and it wouldn't turn back on, leaving it as an expensive plate matt.

I have both the official surface pro dock and the supplied charger that came with the surface pro 4 and both showed the same issue and couldnt power and charge my device.

Fast forward to today when i finally received a replacement, that replacement they sent me is also broken.
The replacement can recognise the charger from my dock and the official cable, but it wont charge the battery. The battery stays at 0 percent and now from an expensive plate matt, i know have a tiny under powered expensive desktop tablet...

I am now planning to return the whole lot back to MS and want a refund.
Sorry but this is just not acceptable at all and feel frustrated on a device that costs nearly £2000.00 in the UK.
Yes i can request for another replacement but wait again for a week? and test again and reinstall again? no thanks. i dont expect this kind of issues to arise(twice) in such an expensive device.

Tried updating the BIOS? I had a charging issue with my Toshy Click Mini that was addressed by BIOS, it's been right as rain since I updated it...

    EDIT:

I assume you've tried all the suggestions here? https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en...?os=windows-10

how do you update the bios?

yes i tried all the solutions there but the one that diddnt work was the two button shiutdown thingy as it would just restart the device after i hold the power button and volume up key for 10 seconds on step 3

Don't know on a Surface, I'm afraid! The Toshy comes with a pre-installed Windows application that will do all the updates automatically including BIOS.

This page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=49498 suggests that firmware updates are delivered via Windows Updates, but also provides a downloadable installer for a cumulative driver & firmware update package. It's meant for custom installations but might also help force updates if you're having problems...

    EDIT:

According to this page: https://www.thurrott.com/mobile/micr...ability-issues MS issued a firmware update in November that provided a new Battery driver as well as some stability enhancements, so it'd definitely be worth trying to force the latest update from the download page, IMNSHO...

Sounds like you've had a bad run - I've had one since December and not had any issues at all with it, the updates seems to have fixed any headaches I had

    Re: MS surface 4 disapointments

I guess there's a reasonable chance that someone would get two in a row with issues: with even a modest 0.1% failure rate, if you ship 1,000,000 units roughly 1000 will get returned, and if you're sending out 1000 units there's a decent chance that one of them will be faulty, so someone somewhere is getting two faulty units in a row.

That's despite 999,000 people getting perfectly functioning units first time....

Wow, understand the frustration with bad tech, but I hope that is a joke!

Surely you would of been able to claim it being faulty and get a refund under uk law? Or failing that sell on eBay or here on the forums? Surely someone would buy it?

    Ah, phew!

Glad that you managed to get your money back is nothing else!

Let us know how you get on if you go back to the surface 4 pro, tempted to get one myself, although equally tempted to wait it out for the surface pro 5 now!
