any ideas?
any ideas?
i might have to do that, where can i get it brand new on pay as you go?
I have seen them sim-free for £200 online, cant remember exactly where, but was a big/safe site.
I went the contract method, enough free minutes and texts that i never have to pay for calls on top.
Orange web site - £170 payg.
And maybe you can use one of those free nokia unlock sites to unlock it.
Is it orange-branded? I HATE HATE HATE how orange have to put their logo on every phone

I'm sure that you'll be able to unlock for free, I believe that it's a standard DCT4 phone. I unlocked my old 7650 be downloading a free calculator from the net.
Are these any good for mp3 playback, my old man just got a v980 with a memory card that apparently does mp3 playback that i have yet to test but i much prefer nokia and dont need 3g.
I have a 6230 and think they are way overrated.Originally Posted by mark22
Firstly the Nokia Suite/drivers is completely carp, like it's been writen by a 4 year old in visual basic (even the most up to date version). Slow, buggy and generally a pain. If you get one, you must buy MobiMB - it's well worth the money.
Secondly, the phone has NO in built playlist management, which is a real nightmare and also means that using a card reader is pointless - you have to use software. Even some of the dirt cheap £19.99 players have playlist management. I don't know what Nokia where thinking.
Thirdly, you have to use the nokia headphone's. Can't plug in some decent headphones or plug into your hifi/amp etc. There is no adaptor available either. What's that all about? it's just stupid.
It's not a bad phone and if you like it, buy it. But if its an MP3 player you want then look elsewhere. Oh, and the video recording quality is a joke too.

Maybe overrated now (which is impressive in itself now considering its age), but certainly worth all the credit it got at release over 6 months ago. At a time when MP3 playback on a small phone was unheard of.Originally Posted by dangerous_dom
You can use a card reader, what are you talking about? Just take the MMC out, put it in the card reader and works like normal. The playlists are tiny files that can be handled by bluetooth, IR or even cable.
No built-in playlists is annoying, but i guess nokia didnt plan on people putting 1GB MMc cards in the phone. The MP3 player should have received an update via firmware, so i guess nokia is slacking there and left us with a bare minimum player. Still impressive for a phone, still impressive for a phone its size.
Also, I use EX-70s with my 6230, all you need is about £10-£15 which is a good deal. Look on ebay or check out this thread:

So there is a readily available adapter that does it all, you just have to look
Its a phone that was very ahead of its time 8 months ago, today people just look at it and compare it against the phones that finally caught up to it, making it look inferior at times. Its unfair but such is the market.
Its still one of the few 5/5 phones, still a highly rated small phone. And im still actually concerned as to what i'll be replacing it with in 5 months time. Seems nothing good enough is out yet for me to upgrade to.
