Thats mostly true, but some apps/games require that you install them on the internal storage, however photos, music and video are fine.

    Probably, its hard to tell.

I think Microsoft tried hard, but seem to have given up on it ever being a major player, at least in the consumer market.

I love mine, it does everything I want it to.

You just need to know what you want it for, if its for playing music, watching video, taking photos, making phone calls, sending text messages or email, it will be fine even if the platform dies.

    Re: windows 10 phone

Windows mobile is pretty much dead as a platform & I would expect MS to kill it off in the next 12months. App developers have deserted the platform and major players like Facebook are not updating their Windows apps so really tells you all you need to know, which in my eyes is a shame. As a platform Windows Phone had a lot going for it and was really nice to use.

Why don't you just get an Android phone that runs Nougat and has an SD card, so that if you definitely want the ability to merge device storage with card storage then you can use the adoptable storage feature of Nougat.

    Re: windows 10 phone

It's really hard, I'm still on Windows Phone as my daily use, but I'm not happy.

The App Gap is getting worse. MS appear to have stopped subsidising this, which is a huge mistake IMHO.

But the bigger problem is iOS has the interface of the 80s. Android is completely inconsistent and just downright unreliable. Simple things like on the 5P setting the WiFi "unfortunately system has stopped working" Cue two minutes of the entire shell dying, before booting me back to a lock screen. Just awful.

My only complaint about WP is the apps missing. It does everything else, from emails, photos to whatsapp better than the alternatives (which I'm lucky enough to own). This is before we get on to the dual sim functionality which is miles ahead of anyone else.

    Re: windows 10 phone

I've been on a Nokia Lumia 620 from early 2013 since it works fine etc, but I'm having doubts about upgrading to another Windows Phone for the reasons stated above, which is a shame as I like the OS itself. I came from an early Android phone to Windows Phone and it felt very slick in comparison and still feels like a fresh interface now.

I doubt Windows Phone will die off since there is not much point killing it off from Microsoft's perspective. They're just aiming now for the mobile office/work market it seems. Techradar has a review on the mobile office focused HP Elite x3:

    http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pho...1315327/review

It got marked down for the increasingly lacking app store and the physical size, but I still think it has a niche to fill with being a mobile PC etc.

Also just to add, I've just tried to open the PayPal app on my Lumia 620 and I got a message saying "Sorry the app is no longer available for Windows".

    Re: windows 10 phone

Apps are "nice" but for most, I dont believe they are really essential its just a convenience thing in most cases.

Facebook, Paypal, eBay, Amazon etc all have functioning websites. Sure its a bit more effort, but tbh, I cant say i really use any of those sites whilst out and about anywhere. Maybe Amazon if I'm trying to compare a price.

    Re: windows 10 phone

IMHO nothing wrong with windows phone. MS is still updating win 10 mobile phones and not everyone gets a phone for 10 variations of Angry birds etc.

I am not a major app user, my criteria for a phone is quality of calls and can it send or receive texts.

As BobF 64 said with edge or any browser of your choice you can get onto facebook etc.

Android, Apple or Windows, It all boils down to personal choice.

Hmm, you can't use that very often, it was withdrawn in the summer apparently! (just went to have a look as I - wrongly - thought I had it installed on my Lumia 550).

It's a tricky one: there's a number of things Windows 10 Mobile does very well, but it certainly doesn't have the app support of Android or iOS. I can't see Windows killing their big "one Windows everywhere" push quite this quickly, so I'd expect to get a couple of years out of a Windows phone bought now, but with the lack of app support from third parties it's pretty much bound to go the way of BB OS 10 eventually - you need a critical mass of users to keep the developer community engaged.

Currently Win 10 Mo does have 3rd party native apps for many of the major services: kindle/audible, facebook, twitter, etc., and its native handling of email, calendar office, etc. is pretty good too (almost up to BB10 standards, but not quite ). It does miss out thanks to Google's refusal to put any google apps on Windows and their inability to run decent mobile-friendly web-based alternatives for one or
two key services (I'm looking at you, Hangouts), but apart from that I don't have any issues with the capabilities of my Lumia at all - it plays music, streams audio (can't live without TMS), reads ebooks/audiobooks, sends & receives emails/texts, lets me social media ... really unless oyu've got some very specific requirements you're likely to find something to do the job on Win 10 Mo. The question is whether you'll find something that you'll be happy using...

    Re: windows 10 phone

I've been using Windows phone for a few years, and I think Windows 10 Mobile is excellent. I'm currently on a Lumia 640XL for the last 18 months. Dual SIM too, which is a huge feature that you don't get with Apple. The app gap isn't an issue, I have everything I need. And I think with Universal Windows 10 apps the situation may be improving. As someone else said, iOS has an interface from the 80's to me it just seems so dated. I'm OK with Android, very good O/S, if I had to drop Windows 10 mobile I wouldn't be that concerned. Microsoft will not drop Windows 10 mobile in the medium term, they have to be in the mobile space with something. Out of iOS, Android and Windows mobile, it is Windows mobile that is being developed the fastest and most aggressively. My next phone will be another Windows 10 Mobile, but whenever I replace my phone I always look at the market - if indeed Windows mobile does die, I won't be the last one on the planet using it.

    Re: windows 10 phone

Not sure, think MS have been rumoured to be about to release something new for ages.

As a side not, my Samsung S6 Edge died about a month ago, waiting for it to be repaired (2 year warranty from Samsung), the only phone I had laying around that was unlocked was my wifes old Lumia 625. After a quick software update its been excellent. It picks up reception where my S6 wouldn't, and its been faultless. Internet browsing, email, etc is very good, mobile websites work well, apps that are available have been good, only downside is the lack of some apps.

    Re: windows 10 phone

Weirdly I just rescued a Nokia 1020 from the IT bin at work. A quick reset & update and it's working fine, the camera is outstanding on it in daylight. Easily as good as my now sold S8+ or LG G6 and a real shame that Microsoft wouldn't update it Windows 10 Mobile. It's such a good phone and it's criminal that Microsoft has all but abandoned it's phone OS and left great phone like this high & dry.
