Xiaomi Mi 8 - anyone using
Looking for a new phone in the near future.
Currently using a OnePlus 5, but now looking at the Xiaomni phones as the best bang for your buck android phones.
Anyone here using a Mi 8 or Mi 6 and can either advise if they have had any problems running them on UK networks?
Thanks.
Re: Xiaomi Mi 8 - anyone using
I haven't used a Xiaomi smartphone before, it is pretty trending nowadays, but I would prefer to use Huawei.

They dont make any money at present - trying to go public so building up their base. Seems to be you get the most recent hardware at the best price, but wondering if anyone had had bad experiences (I think someone said you cant use O2 as their frequencies are not supported).
Re: Xiaomi Mi 8 - anyone using
I know two people with Xiaomi Mi A1 and its an awesome phone for the price.

You can usually find that out by looking at what LTE bands are supported by the phone. You'd have to carefully check the exact model/version you're purchasing (supported bands often vary with models meant for different countries) but the one sold here claims to support the bands required for use on O2 (notably band 20). To be honest I don't think there are that many recent phones which would lack support for at least most of a UK operator's bands, it was more of a problem in the early days of LTE. Having said that, it's still worth checking, particularly if you're not buying from a well-known, UK-based retailer.

Xiaomi Mi A2 is due soon and is seriously impressive for the price. Even the camera holds up, sometimes even trading blows with Oneplus 6 and S9, generally it's not as good but the fact it can even be comapred and sometimes out perform these shows you it's a decent shooter. It also has Android One, so should get updates for 2 years. It's coming in at 250 euro I believe for snapdragon 660 / 4gb ram / 64Gb storage. No SD or 3.5mm, but the A2 lite does have those if critical so you could check that out too.

Its a shame they dropped the mSD over the Mi A1 - a lot of phones in Asia seem to have triple slots,ie,dual SIM plus mSD and the Mi A1 has it. Another thing I am 50/50 on is the camera, but not so much the quality which seems solid. GSMArena tested the Mi A2 camera and low light ability is really good considering the price:

So the secondary sensor is used to improve low light pictures and the phone like the Mi A1 has a gyro which is used for EIS. Having a gyro at this price point is not common anymore.
However, the Mi A1 did have a 50MM lens, and when I was using it,I found it really useful in a number of situations, for framing a subject or even close ups.
Having said that I think this might be my next phone - Huawei models in Asia are much better specced for the price than the ones here(!),so you are getting a better deal with the Mi phones TBH.

I'm using a Mi A1. Very happy with it for the price.
Really wish Xiaomi still did a similarly specced mini version. The Mi2S was one of the best value for money phones I ever bought.
