Three 3G Switchoff within 2 weeks

Just thought if anyone is not receving a million txt messages and emails regarding this, Three's 3G switch off is within 2 weeks. Why they can't provide an exact date I don't know.

If you have any old devices they might not work soon.

iD Mobile, Smarty, Freedompop and Superdrug Mobile use the Three network and will be affected.

my phone is saying 4G in the top banner, i presume this means i won't be affected, save for the more patchy signal now 3G won't fill in the gaps along the train route?

I would double check your phone.

My old OnePlus 6 was 4G data (showing 4G symbol), but only up to 3G for phone calls... which I didn't realise until the announcement of the 3G shutdown. I naively believed if a phone was advertised as 4G it was across all services but incidently not.

4G Calling, also known as Voice over LTE or VoLTE, is a way of making phone calls with far better audio quality than was possible using older mobile technologies. While Vodafone has long supported 4G Calling in the UK, some of the very earliest 4G phones don’t support it – if your 4G phone does not, then it will use 2G for calls.

To check if your phone supports 4G Calling, use this Vodafone UK webpage. It’s worth doing both of these checks not only on your own phone, but on those belonging to friends, family and neighbours who may still be using older phones that will be affected by the 3G switch-off.

These checks use the IMEI number, which is a unique identification number that all phones have. The easiest way to find it is to dial *#06# on your phone. You can also check your SIM tray, the box your device came in or your device Settings. On some devices, multiple numbers can be listed, like EID, IMEI2 and MEID. Only use the number labelled IMEI.
    https://www.vodafone.co.uk/newscentr...l-be-affected/

Your phone should support VoLTE and there was an update in 2022 that enables it by default. So if you don't keep your device up to date (or use a custom ROM) then you may need to enable VoLTE manually.

    https://www.androidcentral.com/phone...-volte-support

You can also type your IMEI number into the Vodafone website to see if your phone has 4G calling:

    https://www.vodafone.co.uk/set-up-4g-calling/

In theory, if your phone does not have 4G calling, it will drop back to 2G. It would just be a decrease in audio quality.

That stuff is useful. Try heating your food with it.

But be warned, it's dangerous too. No, not hurting yourself (though that too). But, soon you'll find people gather round it to keep warm, and then you have lots of them. Not long after, someone will suggest picking people to help "organise things" and before you know it, you'll have "governments", and "lawyers". And heaven help you, "advertising executives".

It won't be long before you wish all you had to ruin your day were those sabre-toothed tigers.

This is the end of my windows phone (Lumia 735) it is 4G but no VoLTE, I have tried registry edits etc but had no luck.

The best phone I have ever owned.

Always wanted a Windows phone then they pulled out when I was ready to buy. There was an HP Phone that docked to your monitor and you ran a desktop from it, looked remarkable even by todays standards.

However, it should drop back to 2G so you could continue using it, I just don't know what quality a phone call would be

Yeah the HP Elitex3 was something else, Windows phones were amazing, the interface still is the best and as I found it just did many things which you had to install apps for on android or apple. Unfortunately it was too late to market to get get enough users and app support, this didn't bother me much buy I can see how it effected mass adoption.

I will say as much as 2g might work its just starting to get a bit long in the tooth as even whatapps dropped support.

Nor me. I indulged a bit in my yoof, and certainly at uni, but have been effectively teetotal for about 30 years. Maybe a half pint on a hot day .... once or twice a year, in a heavy year. Then probably several years with no booze at all. Partly, because with meds for BP and meds for headaches, booze other than very modest amounts just made me feel ill. Or worse yet, be ill.

I'm not ideologically teetotal, but for all practical intents and purposes, have been for a very long time now. Mind you, when I think about Sonos, I might be tempted to hit the hard stuff.
