You need a program called Smart Movie from a company called Lonely Cat Games.

Contains the player you install on the phone and a convertor for the PC so you can take any movie file and convert it into the phones format.

For best results you need the Xvid codec installed on the phone and convert the clips into that for the phone. Gives the best image quality results.

Smart Movie is a great little suite. In fact, it's the only piece of software that I've ever actually bought for my smartphone. It contains a player for your phone, which plays dixv and xvid, and a convertor for your PC. The only thing that it doesn't do is rip direct from DVD.

Personally, I use a piece of software called Fair Use DVD to rip DVDs. It takes a while to run but the results seem good.

If you don't fancy shelling out for smart movie (~£15) then you could convert to 3GP and use the built-in Real Player. I'm not really a fan of Real Player, but at least it's free. I believe that Quicktime and Nokia's Multimedia Convertor will both convert video files to 3GP.
