Etch-A-Sketch: The killer app for mobile?

Etch-A-Sketch, that old favourite of the pre-school set, is
coming to a mobile phone near you.

Users will soon be able to draw on their mobile phone screens using keypads. The drawings can be saved on the phone. To delete the drawings, users press '0 and the phone vibrates — mimicking the shaking motion on the old Etch-A-Sketch. The doodler is being introduced in the UK by mobile operator Orange.

    Thumbs down

My word, things do come full circle don't they! I remember Etch-a-Sketch from longer ago than I would admit to, and I see it started in 1960 - see the clip from the BBC website:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/ilove/years/1960/toys1.shtml

However, is this really a suitable application for a mobile phone? As I remember the original toy, it was ridiculously difficult to draw anything interesting by twiddling 2 knobs, and if you made a mistake you had to start all over again.

I would have thought the best sort of drawing tools would be those you can already implement with a touchscreen phone using a stylus - at least the drawing process is quite a bit easier.
