Help me choose a new phone.

Hi, it's upgrade time and I can't decide which phone to go for.

I currenty have a nokia 6230 and it's been a good phone but a little boring and the screen quality leaves alot to be desired.

I've narrowed my choice down to 3 but cant choose between them.
    Sony-ericsson K750i
Samsung d600 (due out in about a month)
    or Nokia 6230i

    Any experiences/recommedations please?

    Scott

I dont trust the SE's (i have seen WAAAAAY! too many go wrong.) Although they win functionality vote.

Havent had a chance to try the D600 but spec wise it looks good and it wins asthetic vote.

6230i wins simplicity and reliability vote from me.

6230i, I've got one. Its awesome, so easy to use and the mp3 player quality is awesome not to talk about speaker quality.

I heard K750i's are quiet buggy at the moment. Bottom line go for the 6230i

k750i is great, I've got one atm, no probs so far. Best phone out atm in that range with regards functionality. Had the k700i before it, pretty logical progression, and a much better phone. The Camera is slightly slow in refreshing itself, but is good if you can hold it still. Memory Stick Duo is great aswell, as with the adapter (included in mine) you can take files directly off your pc to your phone, without playing with bluetooth or SE software, which can be quite slow. Simple Windows drap & drop with your card reader

The screen is bright, with vibrant colours and easily readable. Buttons are a reasonable size and quite intuitively located, ie the button is where you could concievably want it.
Its reasonably light and quite comfy in the hand. Could be worth waiting for the Nokia N91 if you haven't got an iPod or similar

The other phones, while good, didnt feel as sturdy or as easy to use as the SE, and coming from me, a devoted Nokia fan until the k700i, thats something.

    Hope this helps,
    Dave

Thanks, are the improvements in the 6230i really that much over the 6230? Would it seem like I', getting a new phone or a new case for my existing one?

I like the looks of both the k750 and the d600, the SE has a cover for the camera which will protect it whereas the d600 doesent. I don't have a card reader or blootooth dongle yet.

    Any further opinions?

New phone! Just works the same way. Imagine upgrading from win 98 to win XP - upgrading both hardware and software.

Doesnt the D600 slider protect the lens. The K750 comes with a data cable. I dont think the D600 will and the 6230i doesnt.

6230i is my reccomendation, better screen, better camera, slightly improved software...worth getting.

I've owned both samsung and SE phones...both were a mistake. No matter how much you want it to be a lie, nokia can't be beaten in the phone market. SE and Samsung phones just have too many issues, be it functionality wise (i HATE the SE software, its just not as easy to use as the nokia interface; and samsungs often dodgy Bluetooth/IR support).

stick with the nokia, you wont regret it

I'd go for the SE K750i. Great camera, nice UI, small and decent looking.

And I consider myself to be a Nokia fanboy.

ok what about the SE W800i or nokia N91? anyone know when these will be available?

The D600 has the camera at the top of the slider so pics can be taken when the phone is closed, but no protection for it.

The N91 has estimates of anywhere between November and January, depending on who you ask. O2 and vodafone will have them first, then other networks in the 3-6months afterwards.

What network are you on? Do you consider a Camera to be a better feature than a MP3 player?

I have Nokia N90 and boy is it nice.... anyway, it has quite some free space (included 64MB card and about 40MB internal memory) and a decend camera.

I would go for the SE W800i (Walkman Phone), basically a slightly better K750i with music software (very ipod esk) less buggy software and comes with headphone adapter + 512mb MS Duo card.

You can get this free on many tariffs now, I have had mine for over a month and it is a fantastic bit of kit, music playback is better than an ipod in some people's opinion, battery lasts about 3/4 days with heavy usage. The 2 mega pixel camera is the best I have ever seen on a phone.

The W800/K750 will walk away with many cellphone of the year awards this year I reckon they are that good. Granted the K750i was a bit buggy at first (I had one) but the latest software revisions solve this + the W800 has different software anyway and in my opinion isn't buggy at all.

    Hope this helps,

    Nate

I'm with O2 online (still have genie sim card). The camera is more imprtant than mp3 player as it saves me taking my ixus 3 with me everywhere, but I also like to be able to have mps3's on my phone not just for ring tones but for when walking round town.

Still strugling between the SE K750i/W800i or the Samsung D600.

With everything you have suggested mate, you would not be dissapointed with the W800i. The camera really is fantastic, so far ahead of other camera phones + the mp3 playback is comparable to any ipod / mp3 player, as I have said even better in some cases.

Its also the little things with the phone like the really loud / clear mp3 ringtones, the great battery life, easy to use software, the great screen, plus easy texting etc etc.

I have had over 20 different phones this year alone (I am a mobile freak) lol, take it from me this handset really is one of the best to ever be released, if not the best so far.

    Hope this helps
