dialup or other networking with nokia 6680

    Hi all,

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question but I'm not really up on mobile technology just now. Basically I have a 6680 successfully paired via bluetooth to my PC. I've just moved house and am waiting for BT to sort their sh*t out and enable my landline before I can get broadband at the new place, leaving me internet-less.

I can get the 6680 using the Bluetooth Dialup Networking service to connect to my office LAN and get internet access from that but obviously it's very slow. The modem in the dialup server is a Eicon DIVAserver 8-channel ISDN TA but it works with incoming analogue calls as well. I wondered if there was anything that can be configured on the phone to allow faster dialup? Or is it not possible to use the GPRS or 3G connection capabilities on the phone to allow internet access that way?

    Cheers for any help

Dial-up networking isn't possible any more, as far as I know.

However, setting up an internet connection using the 6680's 3G capabilities is very easy.

Assuming you've got the latest version of Nokia PC Suite (6.6.something), right click on the PC Suite icon in the system tray and you should see an option for "PC modem" or something similar. Click on it, it'll take you through the settings and within 30 seconds you'll be surfing the net at 3G speeds.

However, mobile data is extremely expensive. Out of bundle, you can expect to pay anything between 50p/MB (Orange 3G) and £7.50/MB (T-Mobile). Using it as a home internet connection replacement isn't a good idea unless you're Roman Ambramovich.

DUN does work, i was using it last night. I see a "Connect to the internet" in the PC suite tho, I'll give that a shot from home.

I'm not intending using it for any real length of time, just for email and a little MSN until at least my landline gets activated!

    Thx for the help.
