Lovely machine but i've heard a lot of bad things about build quality and annoying sony customer support.
Great if you get one working though
Buy an asus tbh, they manufacture the laptops for Sony, but they actually have reasonable aftersales support. So good build quality and good customer service. The only problem is finding a stockist, but if you speak to Scan they can probably arrange something.

Ummm, thats intresting.Originally Posted by Marcos

Some sonys are solid but this one has some serious issues, its a shame since its otherwise perfect. I almost went for it myself, got an S-series insteadOriginally Posted by oshta

Oh , i see, its the extra cheap version, the one i was thinking of was an FS series with Pentium M and GeForce Go cardOriginally Posted by TheAnimus
But don't forget this laptop is 15.4" but only 1" thick and under 3KG
Hi, it is actually the ODM Quanta that makes IBM and Sony Vaio chassis's (!)
I don't know why you guys are thinking Sony's build quality is poor, but I used to sell these things for 2 years, and compared to the amount of pure crap (HP consumer range I'm looking at you), Sony's are incredibly well built.
I wouldn't, gfx is a little lacking.
I've already had a chance to play with a few different brands of laptops here at uni, after a vaio its almost as if most other manufacturers don't consider the look and feel of their productOriginally Posted by Caged
Coming back to a sony and it always feels much sturdier, solid, lighter, thinner and overall better.
Just wish they'd sort out their customer support since now even their prices are tempting. They only have 1 flaw now
Agent, have a look at the FJ series of Vaios, slightly more portable. Not as many models though.
Well, have a look at the club vaio forums, there are a lot more FS series problem posts than any other. While i was researching on what model to get i heard more than enough bad things about screen, dvd drive, and other component failures. Along with parts of the screen hinges falling off. I mean i'd love to have bought one and i was set on getting one but i read too much negative feedback.Originally Posted by Agent
If they were just defective then it wouldn't be that big a problem to simply return them and get a replacement, but thats not the way sony works, if you read about some of the things a lot of people have to put up with when dealing with sony customer support it definitely makes you want to stay away.
A guy in my flat has an FS and he was without it for a whole month waiting for a repair on a common fault (i forgot what exactly was wrong with it). And thats lucky too since i hear sometimes they just don't deal with it
