    Motorola RAZR/SLVR V3... that bad?

As my phone is broken, I've been looking at some cheap contracts, and like the look of the RAZR, however I have heard the menus are terriblely laggy.... Even though they look like fantastic phones.

Just wondering if anyone here has one, and can shed some light on how bad they really are.

    I've got one....seriously, STAY AWAY!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I CANNOT see how Motorola could ever have fully tested their OS and then gone "Yes...this is THE perfect OS, bug free and intuitive to use....we are green for go!"

It's just total rubbish....I'm getting angry just thinking about it, haha!

Also, 5 Mb total storage. FIVE!? WHY!? That's SO pathetically tiny! The damn thing can play your MP3s, but you'll have to re-encode them to 46kbps in mono to get a chance of fitting more than 2 on it. Also, there is no way to control the MP3 playback when you close the clamshell, so I have no idea what the actual point in having it is.
On a similar note, whilst you're able to assign MP3s as ringtones and photos for each contact in your phone book, I wouldn't recommend it. The memory access speeds are incredibly slow on this mofo....if anyone calls you, and it has to stream a teeny jpeg AND mp3 at the same time it just hangs the phone, and you can't do anything until the caller puts the phone down....SO infuriating.

Battery life is naff, not that the phone would ever admit to that; it will tell you that battery life is at max for a good few days until it suddenly decides it only has a matter of minutes until it's reserves are totally depleted.
Oh and another nice quirk is that sometimes it doesn't realise that you've taken it off charge, so it will sit there constantly trying to charge even when there's no cable in it. Only a reboot will fix this. At the same time, you can plug it into the charger, and it will just totally fail to realise it's there....again, you'll have to reboot it to get it to charge.

Erm, what else do I hate about my phone?

Oh yeah, you can only have a max of 40 SMS messages stored at once. That's right....40, no matter how much storage space is left.

It's got some sort of ATi graphics chip in it which is supposed to allow for breataking 3D java games, but it can barely manage to run the rubbish little 2D pool game that comes with it at a decent frame rate. It can't dynamically resize images to fit the screen, so if you upload pics to it, you'd better make sure they're the same dimensions as the screen.
It *does* play videos well (very smooth), but that's about it. It can't even record videos.

Blutetooth management is rubbish. Predictive text (whist a nice system) is laggy and slow....I can actually type an entire text message out in a few seconds, and then have to wait a minute, watching my words appear one by one as the thing catches up, and even then it predicts most of them wrongly.

There's so much more wrong with this phone but I'm extremely tired and struggling to formulate decent sentences so I'm going to stop here.....I actually came on to the forums to seek advice about what phone I should buy as a replacement, cos I can't take this V3 crap any longer!

what i couldnt believe about the v3, which as far as im aware is still motorolas flagship phone is how indifferent it is compared to say, the v500, its like all motorola thought was lets make the phone look nice so people buy it, lets not bother about making it a technically competent phone, (nice screen though) like said above 5mb of memory, i mean c'mon 5mb !! thats pathetic, no card expansion either arghhhh its just a pile o' poo

my mate still thinks his v3 is better than my k750i because it 'looks better' unfortunatly i think many people also feel this way and i do admit its a lovely looking phone.

but seriously man stay away unless u just want a poser phone with no practical functionality

    shame on u motorola !!!!!!!!

Motorola have made a business decision. Why spend money improving their UI/software when all most people care about is how nice the phone looks?

Bizarrely style over substance has seriously helped their market share, I heard they are now the world number 2 manufacturer from an also ran. I've seen loads of them around, personally I wouldn't have one as they feel really nasty, I'd hate to text on that pad.

I'm not a massive phone freak as my current phone is a T610 donated by a friend. So I would ask the phone boffins what to get, though I like the looks of the K750i, D600 and C600.

    DONT BUY A V3!

I had one for about 3 months before swapping for a K750i. They have the worst menu system on any phone (frustrating and illogical), the worst text entry system (it's almost physically painfully it so slow) and yes, the software is amazingly slow and unresponsive. It THE worst phone i have ever used and i have been using mobiles for 12 years (i had one of the first analogue nokias - everyone though i was a drug dealer in my town).

There are so many better phones out now and its a relatively old phone now.

Motorola are trying to shift them quickly, the pink version is the giveaway.

    Bet they'll be a V4 pretty soon.

I got one for Christmas, and I really like it.

I can't deny some of the things that have been said (like the lack of memory), but some of them have not presented themselves to me.

I think Motorola have updated the software because I've read reviews and one of the main criticisms was that it didn't tell you if you'd used up all your chars in a SMS message and just go ahead and charge you for 2, but my one has a character counter on it. I also haven't got any menu lag, and the mp3 player, whilst useless, works fine. I haven't run into the 40 SMS limit yet. If I hit one, I'll let you know.

I am not a heavy user of my phone though. I have a PDA which I use for everything anyway. The few photos I'll take will go straight on that. It replaces a T230, so my standards arn't too high anyway. Plus it's only my second phone ever, so I only have the T230 as a reference. I like its size and feel (although, it's a bit wide), it's much easier to live with than the brick-like T230, and I don't find the menu unfriendly at all.

It's a perfectly adequete phone, but if you are a heavy user, or someone who wants all the extras that phones usually come with, you're probably better served elsewhere.

It is style over substance, but I'm not that interested in substance, as long as it does what I want, I'm happy.

It's good because it slim so it wouln't show up like some weird bump on my tight jeans. And yeah the V3 is absolutely useless if you're a heavy user, but i only make abou 3 calls a month so not a problem for me

If the predictive text was capable of keeping up with me, then I would say it was an excellent phone for texting.....the keypad is gorgeous.

Still, I couldn't recommend this phone to anyone and keep a clear conscience.
