    Sony Ericsson Update Service

When did this get changed to a download?

I guess it is (in theory) more reliable than an interactive web page, but apparently the server is too busy right now so i can't try it out.

not sure it needs to be a 34MB download though

I'm glad they did to be honest. My firewall never liked it and just try doing it on 56k like me!!!

BTW, Does it suport O2's firmware now?

I've managed to update my w800i ok and it's on O2, sometimes the firmware for O2 is released a little later than the GSM version - again, just check www.esato.com for information on new releases

My k750 is O2 and it updates fine. would be good if there was an update log like normal software so you can see what has been fixed etc.

The biggest thing for me was fixing that annoying "backlight comes back on again after having gone to standby once" bug. That one really annoyed me as I kept thinking it was a text/call coming through.

ooh! cool. thanks for that. Yeah that one pissed me off too. Although i'ce noticed that now when you take it out of standby you sometimes get the bar with Calls and Menu, then a second later the rest of the screen comes on. Not a big deal, and it is certainaly better than the backlight coming on randomly.

    nice find

Edit: Jut had a read through that link, very interesting. Navigating pictures is much faster than before the update. rotating and zooming is also much improved. Looks like there is also some improvements in taking photos in low light conditions, i'll test that out at some point

LOL, i had that too and so did all my mates. People in the pub would constantly say "oi ate, you just missed a call/got a message" lol.

I will be updating mine then asap. Last time i tried (when it was web based) it did not support O2 specific firmware.

    Thanks chaps.

its one of the better things about the k750i, that you can update firmware over the net using the supplied cable

i don't know of any other phones that support this

Well it's not just the K750/W800 as the new update software actually asks if you will be connecting with the new Fastport or the old style Ericsson connector. I don't know which models are covered in the new software, but there must be a significan number.
