Nokia N73 or SE K800i - Which do I get?

As the title says I can get either one for the same money but I'm undecided. I like the look of the K800i and it size. But the N73 has a loverly big screen and is only slightly bigger, I think I like the look of the symbian os too.

So can anyone give me some help deciding. I normally just use a phone for making calls & taking the odd picture. Dont really use Vodafone Live or browse as the screen on my 6230i is too small.

    Cheers

The k800i certainly has a big screen to, ample enough! I've never used the N73 myself, but the k800i is great, it's my current phone and had no problems so far!

I don't know the Nokia N83, but I have the N80 myself (upgraded from SE W800i) and think it's a great phone. The best I've had so far.

Well, I got my N73 last Wednesday and I must say I am impressed. But then again I would be 'cos Ive been walking about with a 6670 in my pocket for 6 months .

As with the N73 the bonus is a good robust handset (typical of Nokia handsets) which makes it just slightly heavier than the S/E. I was thinking of getting a S/E k800i until the shop got a delivery of new handsets while I was there.
I wasn't too pleased about the lens cover on the k800i, I was scared of breaking it off when I tried to slide it open.

With the N73 you've got a full blown PDA and it can browse a full website, not a specially cut down version. The multimedia features are awesome.

I've had the handset for about a week and I love it. I think Nokia have shot or sacked half the design team. Also glad to see they've gone back to the joystick, 'cos those nav pads just do not work.

But then it's personal choice. If you're not bothered about the Symbian O/S, which in my mind is a biiiig bonus on a PDA/Phone handset, it's entirely up to the individual.
But I have to say again I love my N73.

I’m having the same dilemma now. I fancy having a 3MP camera. How’s the text messaging on the N73? I’ve read comments saying the N73 is slow, is this true/been worked out?

I used the N73 and couldn't get on with the menu system, just seemed odd to me. However, the last 3 phones I have had have all been Sony Ericssons, with the previous phone being a 3310 (I've had a k700i - day it was released, k750, and now the k800i) The build quality is fine, apart from the fast port apparently, but mine hasn't really developed any issues yet (apart from a dodgy charger - which was switched out by Vodafone). Otherwise I'm quite happy with it, just need to find an M2 memory card & desk stand for it now

They are pretty much the same phone just from the perspective of the two manufacturers.
If you fly the Nokia flag - have the N73.
If you prefer SE's user interface - get the K800i.
You cant really loose, they are both good handsets.

Yeah it's all down to whether you prefer symbian or SE's OS.

Personally I really like my n73 - the camera is excellent, and I find the built in upload-to-flikr feature really useful (the phone will let you upload your photo to your flikr account automatically over 3g, it work too!).
The text messaging isn't slow, at least no more so than any other smart phone..it's not going to be as fast as a series40 nokia but there is no real lag or delay from keypresses

I would definitely say go and look in a shop - dialaphone or phones4u or somewhere, and get them to let you play with real phones (not dummy models) and see what you think.

I reccomend the N73 though, mainly because I personally don't like SE phones

I went from a K750i to the N73 and I really like the N73. My biggest gripe is no wifi, which would make it the perfect smart-phone IMO.

However that's only if you are going to take advantage of the Symbian OS - add on apps, etc. The K800i is more of a true handset, a bit faster, simpler, and easier interface. N73 has more flexibility, but as everythign loads more like an application it's a bit slower.

Also the K800 Flash is great for night shots, my N73 doesn't take great photos at nightclubs.

btw on the subject of wifi - why is it really needed on a mobile phone? It really drains the battery life (my n73 lasts 3-5 days on a single charge!) and I can't see the point of it unless you are using it for business purposes...and if you are then you would go for the N80 which is essentially the business version of the N73

Getting apps without the cumbersome Nokia software, sometimes I don't want to go to my computer to look something up, you can browse the web at your local cafe, etc etc

The other day I bought something on Ebay while at Ikea... lol... because I was there a lot longer than I thought I would be. But I bet it cost me £5 from O2 for using the internet with GPRSMSPR or whatever it is rather than finding wifi (bad example maybe, don't think they have wifi there, but you get the idea).

I have a charger at work and at home, and I usually carry one too so battery life doesn't become an issue (it's always when your really stuck that you need to use your mobile for 2 hours straight).

Wow, wasn’t expecting such a whole range of replies. Neither of these phones has wifi as far as I can tell. I’d never thought of the potential for using hotspots. I work with PDAs but wouldn’t want to carry something that large around on a night out.

Series40 refers to phones like the 6230i I assume? I’m wondering if I shouldn’t be so obsessed with the 3MP camera. I can’t see an obvious update for the 6230i (current phone), any recommendations?

yeah, you have to go to the N8x or N9x series to get the Wifi phones. Not sure with SE, but I know the K800i doesn't have it.

Think the p990 is the one with WiFi in the SE range...

I've just noticed the Samsung D900 has a 3MP camera. Anyone using this phone?
