    End Of Contract

sorry if this sounds a stupid question but i'm really not sure what i have to do.

my current 12 month contract with o2 is ending at the start of october. What i would like to do is extend it by another 12 months on the same tariff but get a new phone. i would go into an o2 shop but as i bought it online i though the guys in the shop might tell me to ring them etc.

id like the transition as smooth as possible so i'm not without a phone for a few days.

    anyone help?

Just phone O2 Customer Services, talk to them - order a new phone (which will tie you in to a new 12 month contract) and then you should experience no loss of service

Basically, they will send you a new phone through the post - which should accept your current sim card - otherwise they might send you a new sim card which will be activated when you plug it into your phone

Only thing is that o2 charge more for upgrade phones than what it costs if you start a new contract with them But this does vary based on how much you've spent in the past 12 months (calls, your montly cost, etc), I paid £109 for my Nokia N73, plus a reduction of my tariff from £19 to £14 a month, only cos I couldn't be bothered to shop around and I've been happy with o2's service

What you tend to find is that they contact you at the end of the contract period, usually under the guise of "get a new phone" or some such. Then you can try your best to barter, i personally got double my minutes and text for £5 less per month and a new phone, so I was happy.

Sometimes you need to speak to their Retention team, who are more interested in helping you.

In the shops they are on commision for new contracts (esp. Carphone Warehouse) so upgrading is not in their interest.

I've done it twice, had my free phone sent out, 6 months 1/2price rental (out of 12).

You can get really good deals out of O2. It takes a lot of haggling though, there's a big thread on it over at MSE.

agreed, i insisted i wanted my contract cancelling for about 15minutes with a guy on the phone, in the end they gave me the phone i wanted for free (instead of £50) and i got an extra 400 anytime/any network minutes for the same price i pay for just 100

If you are a O2 online customer and you have been contracted for the full 12/18 months then you can upg in O2 store, if not you will be refured to me ( O2 Retentions )

If you are a Offline customer then you can upg from month 11 or month 17 of your contract via store or direct through us.

PS for those that are Online customers just to let you know we have a range of new tariffs due shortly for new customer which are currently avaible to exsisting customers only

I just upgraded, and found the quickest way to get through to the O2 retention team was to ring up looking for your PAC code to change providers - then they quickly put you through. Also go into the Orange/Vodafone/etc stores before and find out what deals they have so you can bargain properly. I went from £100 for my phone to free, and £150 cash back (automaically too! Not 'send in a letter at 3 months, 5months, 12 months and 15 months'), and better minutes/texts package.

Why is that a load of crud? I've seen people get better deals than that - just because you aren't issuing them doesn't mean they don't exist
Spend 30 mins haggling and you'll save a bundle, same with any comms provider pretty much
