How does the camera fare in comparison to a K800 ? Thats the only half-decent shots I have seen that has come from a phone camera.

Not a benchmark comparison by any means, but the camera seems comparable to my trusty Pentax Optio S4. The Optio is a bit long in the tooth but was a fairly premium model a couple of years ago (£300 quid for 4 m/p, sweet baby jesus...). IMO the Optio still takes better snaps than many of the super-budget 5-6 MP cameras that are on sale currently.

The N95 behaves more like a "proper" camera than any other phone I've seen. Can't really think of many settings the Optio has that the N95 doesn't.

It's taken "best camera phone" honours away from the SE phones in a few camera mags and sites, but some places still say the SE is better in certain areas whilst obviously losing out on resolution. It has a Zeiss lens, as do the SE's. There's a few sites that have comparison pics, have a google. *edit* have a looky at http://www.mobile-review.com/review/...5-cam-en.shtml

The only problem I could see with taking it to a club is that if anything went wrong it'd cost more to replace than an entry SLR As to whether it's good enough to forego a dedicated camera for fun shots, I'd say yes, but I guess it depends on how advanced the camera you're substituting it for is.

It's a bit dark or I'd pop out and snap something

The N95 camera is next to useless in low light.

Yes, but what really kills battery life is colour screens. I have Nokia 1100 and a 6680, both take a Nokia BL5C battery (950mAh), The basic 1100 with a black & white screen & 2G only, easily manages 12 days of standby time. The 6680 with a colour screen, smart phone & 3G is good for only 3 days.

Finally got round to cancelling my Voda contract last friday and just had a call from retentions dept. After some wrangling they offered me a free N95 on 18 month contract. This included 300 mins and 100 texts. Not bad but I believe o2 do it at the same price with more mins.

They also claimed that the Vodafone software had been updated and now allows for VOIP. Don't know if this is true so until I get some hard evidence I won't be signing a new Voda contract. Anyone else heard anything?

With all respect to the girl I spoke to, she was after all a retention dept worker and not a tech so I'd like to be sure before I make any decisions!

Call my cynical, but if I where in your situation I would settle for nothing less than stock Nokia firmware. Vodafone have got some bad press about the VoIP issue, but that was not the only feature that they disabled. I would want every feature working, exactly as Nokia intended. It is not as if you actually gain anything usefull from the customised firmware. All you usually get is a company branded skin, and some bookmarks to their web portal.

I would get hold of a copy of the nokia software update tool and tell Voda that as soon as the phone arrives you will try to update the firmware to the latest official release, and if the tool refuses (It will if it sees operator firmware on the phone), the phone will be going straight back.

It's a good point well put chrestomanci...

To be honest the main thing that attracted me to the N95 was the Wi-fi. But looking on some of the seller's sites, the N95 is not alone in the wi-fi stakes. These 2 for example...
    http://www.mobileshop.com/mobile-pho...-phones/wi-fi/
    http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/search_p...le.aspx?phone=

Both these sites have sections dedicated to wi-fi enabled phones and include the N95 along with the N73 among others. Having checke Nokia's site, I can't see anyting to do with wi-fi on the N73... Surely you'd expect Nokia to be right... Wouldn't you?

While my 1st choice would be N95, the N73 is available on 12 months which to me is a bonus. Anyone have any info please?

i just got myself the t-mobile mda vario II (the one with the fold out keyboard) instead of an n95 which i had my heart set on.... Really pleased with it so far and the wifi is pretty good, surprisingly many free hotspots around which i hadnt really bothered taking note of before....

I think they are mistaken about the N73 having WiFi. The N80 has it though, but I have heard that it is not as good as the WiFi in more recent phones. (poor reception, high battery usage etc)

If you want a good camera phone, then the N73 is almost as good as the N95, but if you are after other features, like VoIP, GPS, or media playback then there will be no comparison.

I see there is a new kid in town, not as feature packed as the N95, but the wifi and battery life should work a whole lot better, i'm talking about the NEW NOKIA E65

That's gonna be my choice of phones anyway, will it be the Nokia's N95, or E65?

The Assisted GPS firmware is not available for T-Mobile yet ... Its only for unbranded nokia firmware at the moment.

I am really looking forward to getting it on mine as the GPS currently takes ages to lock onto anything.

Will this new firmware fix anything else?

I'm so about to call and try to squeeze an upgrade/retention deal from T-mobile, I've just been holding back because of all the user reviews online... April seemed to have lots of people saying dodgy slider that comes loose and bad speaker quality in calls (I think meaning earpiece, not stereo speakers) but those problems seem to have alleviated... there are still people complaining about slow usability and crashes though...

(and complaining about battery life but yeah yeah, charging every day I can live with)

Would love to know what this new firmware is supposed to improve, quicker GPS lock would be nice but it's not a main reason for getting this phone...
