how to enable full post code search - tomtom 6

I've tried to use a full postcode search on my TomTom 6 install today for the first time.

    I input BA3 22B

But the postcode search stopped at BA3

Do I have to enable it somehow ?

I had this problem but it turned out not to be a problem after all. You have to type the post code without any spaces. So BA322B!

Have you tried alternative post codes as I my copy of TT6 doesn't recognise some postcodes such as my works address or one that are within an industrial estates?

running the great britain map - not GB and major roads of europe

Tried another destination to Brighton last night, I got the exact address and it found it with the street name etc, but entering the full postcode with/without spaces just brough up "brighton"

    Any other advice ?

I had this problem too when I first got it. It's a bug in the software. Follow the instructions hither: http://www.tomtom.com/support/index....g1651dhv5o8r90

Re: how to enable full post code search - tomtom 6

I hate to bump an old topic but having googled it i was brought back to Hexus!

This bug caused me just under 2 hours of grief last night (in the wind, rain & middle of the night) because my sodding tomtom on my kaiser wouldn't accept the full postcode. This only started last week & totally out of the blue, can anyone point me in the direction of a fix as the tomtom link above doesnt work anymore.

    cheers guys

Re: how to enable full post code search - tomtom 6

.....on to my brand new Touch Pro 2, with Tomtom v9 ( (built for the TP2 apparently) and again iv got this bloody problem. Iv tried the fixes online and nothing has sorted it.

Its a legit version (free to download...then you buy the maps etc) and iv tried every download, fix, patch & trick on the net. Iv even tried various ~@~@~@~@~@~@ versions but every time its the same 3 digit search limitation.

What is causing this, and how is it effecting so many models? If anyone has any tips on sorting this im all ears, cheers guys.

mines the same on my n95, (ttm6) i can search the 1st part of the postcode but then i'd have to know the address or street name. i assumed this was just how the software worked, my girlfriends standalone tomtom (even though its the cheapest one) is ten times better!

IIRC you need the files "Great_Britain.postal" and "Great_BritainPostal.ver" in a folder called "zip" under the main root of your memory card which has the map. These files should be bundled with the GB map if you've bought legally.

Re: how to enable full post code search - tomtom 6

Nope, its a well known bug. It effects everything apparently from mobiles to standalones. Quite how it effects so many different devices i dont know but im so fed up of it its unreal.

Iv had to resort to using google maps, which as usefull as it can be is a bugger if you run out of 3g to download the maps, or miss a turn!

edit; Tried the zip folder idea several times, and didnt have any luck!

Which version(s) of the postcode file have you been trying, I'm currently using 901.

Works fine on TTN6 on Nokia E61i and TT7 on Asus WM5 PDA.
